Memphis Rodders Reunion - November 20, 2014

I was honored to join my grandfather and dad at the 25th Annual Memphis Rodders Reunion on Thursday evening. This is one of the oldest and most established group of racers in Memphis. Many of these guys are responsible for bringing drag racing to Memphis in the 50's and 60's and growing the sport in those early years. We owe a lot to these guys who were pioneers of the sport and who paved the way for what we enjoy today. What a cool group of guys/gals! Proud that my grandfather is a member of this elite group.

Here are the notes from Saturday's meeting!!

We discussed several things about cruises and events. We added an event or three, kept most events from this year, and decided not to continue a couple events. We had some ideas for upcoming events and stuff. We also discussed this winter and came up with a couple of things.

To start with, we discussed and decided to throw the idea of having some mini cruises around town on weekend days. This is an idea Adam Luchesi started this year with a cruise from 385 and Winchester to Stage rd. in Bartlett. This ended with a meal at a local restaurant. We would like to continue this.

We discussed this winter...how we don't want to be in total shock when we see each other again in the spring, so we decided to continue the Thursday (or Friday) night socializing...we meet at a restaurant, usually Chili's, and share a lot of stories and good natured ribbing over a meal and drinks. Mark, Sarah and Aston are the culprits who started this,and it's only fitting that we force them to continue!!

Another winter event is a cruise to Tupelo to visit the car museum. We are looking at the first part of January for the cruise and you can bring your winter vehicle!!

There were a couple of good ideas for events with our sponsors, and we plan to present these to our sponsors soon.

We all agreed that Cars and Coffee needs to hear us offer to help as a group, and we should show support by going to their events.

Camaro5fest is an event that some members will be attending...if the Camaro5 moderators ever get past SOON for the announcement of the location. We now know the dates; Aug. 6-9, 2015. We plan to have a Camarovan to and from the event and will post details as time grows closer.

We want to have a spring event with MCCC, and will try to get MIR to put something together for us with Super Chevy. It didn't work last year, but maybe we can wear them down....

We decided to give the Hernando Water Tower Festival another try since it rained this year. The event is in the Fall, and supports at risk children. This is a charitable car show.

Another topic that was brought up was having one or two overnight cruise(s). We drive to the location, spend a night and drive home the next day or so. We all need to decide on where to go, and how many to have this coming year. I will post the locations farther down.

Cruises!

We plan to keep Lambert's and the Bluff City Shootout.

We are not continuing the 'Big Ugly' car show in Clarksville, or the Shiloh trip.

We are going to do a spring event with MCCC. we're trying for Super Chevy here in Memphis.

We will continue to do the Cars and Coffee Poker Run as long as they have it.

We need everyone's input to decide whether to do a cruise to Reelfoot lake. (yes or no )

Overnight Cruise(s)!

We need your input on this topic before we can make any decision!!
We need to decide on whether to do one this year, two, or one with another as a possible second if the first works out.
We also need to decide which makes the cut.
Here is the list of suggestions:
-Biloxi for the Cruisin the Coast event (Oct. 4-11th)
-Bowling Green for the Corvette museum, car plant, and possible
tour of the track.
-Branson for the cruise and the attractions
-Six Flags/ Magic Springs for the obvious reasons

Starry Nights was brought up, and the date is confirmed to be Dec. 11th. I can't make that one but I'll get the ball rolling if y'all want to do it. It costs $10/car (half price) and benefits Shelby Farms. You decorate your car and they have an area where you show off the car.

I'm sorry. We won't be able to make it tomorrow as we are doing Thanksgiving early with my grandparents as they will be out of town on Thursday. I hope y'all have a great time and they have a good showing. I really like Cars & Coffee...I'm sorry we've missed the last few. It's one of my favorite gatherings.
