Great Times! Looks like the 50 State Legal JBA's are doing pretty good. I cannot wait to see the times once you get your 60ft in the 1.5 again and MPH on the big end.

Great Job!

Well, I did go JBA catless midpipes with the Supercharger, but the shorties are handling the power fine. Once I get some consistent runs under my belt, I may see what some JBA longtubes can do.

Also, I did figure out why I had tranny problems during the later runs. Seems when it's hot, it tries to lock the torque converter on shift, so at about 30mph (the 1-2) it was trying to lock and shift at the same time. This was basically a mistake I made in programming the tranny, and I have corrected it. Basically, I'll keep the converter unlocked for the run, as it should be.

Hey Padre,

so I'll have the Camaro out of the Speed Shop at the end of the week all modded, tuned and ready to rip. I had a quick question for you though. I'm going to look into some gearing and was wondering if you are happy with the 3:45 choice you made? Would you do anything differently? Once you swithched gearing did you re-tune your tranny or did you have someone else do it for you? I have HP tuners as well but have never tuned a transmission. Just curious. Thanks!

Ken, for me, the main benefit of the 3.45's over the 3.27's was that it made the torque converter feel tighter, and thus around town driving was better.

The 3.45's also help me go through the traps close to redline, rather than at the bottom of my power curve.

For a difference at the track, you want 3.73's, 3.91's or 4.10's. However, with more power, you'll be backing off that and going back to 3.45's as your trap speeds increase, so you're not shifting into 5th.

I did tune the tranny. I began with the Tuning School's $99 guide. Virtually no one likes it, because all it does is tell you (to some degree) "change this, change that" without saying "why". However, it's easy to catch on to the basics and figure out why, and then you can adjust according to your taste. Basically, you can adjust feel, pressure, and speed.

I found my mistake on the tranny tune from last weekend (dealing with torque converter lockup), so once I test it next time at the track I'll feel more comfortable.

Thanks Padre, good advice. So you're saying I should go with the 3:45's if I plan on more power? I'm should be sitting in the mid 400 range after this week. I was also told that 3:70 would be good. I don't know a lot about gearing so I'm still a little lost.

I too have the Tuning school stuff. I bought my HP tuners along with the tuning schools information. Seems like I paid around $1000 for all of it. I need to get back into it and do some reading. Thanks for the help and advice.

If I were you I'd discuss gearing with the shop that's going to do any of your power mods, so you're not doing something now that you'll regret later.
A lot of folks change out their gears and then later when they do other things they realize the screwed up royally.
For example now that I've done all my power mods and have the "potential" of about 1400hp. at the crank, I'm discussing gears to go into my 9" rear.
That discussion is based on how I plan to use the vehicle on a daily basis and the type of driving I'll be doing on the track. I'm thinking 3.73 or 4.10, however, 4.10 may be too much down low on 1000rwhp. for daily use, so may scale back to 3.73, or may just do nothing at all because at 1000rwhp. it may be fine just to keep the same gear ratio as daily driving may be too aggressive with that much power on shorter gears.

Here's one of the shakedown runs from last SUnday:

Each run got worse. As I have been learning, the 6L80E has a "trans adapt" which adjusts the tranny on the fly, so it is very difficult to get a consistent run with so much power.

What I have done for the next time I hope works: I was looking at the tranny tune and trying to find some guidance for how to tune it for a supercharger. Well, it occurred to me that GM already did it for me: the CTS-V.

So I got onto HP Tuners Repository, downloaded a 2011 CTS-V (Supercharged LSA 556-hp motor with a 6L90E) stock tune file, and copied over the intertial, shift time, and shift pressure tables.

Drove it a bit on the street today, and I like it better than my previous attempts to tune the tranny. But you really can't test a WOT 1-2 shift on the street.

My tranny tune worked pretty well for the bolt-ons and cam, but the D1 is a different animal/beast.

One more attempt this Sunday to get an official time before Easter. Wish me luck!

Oh, and I bought a new Daily Driver:

100,000 miles. Hmm, wonder how hard it would be to put a CTS-V/ZL1 LSA motor in there?

First congrats on the 10`s man!!! Awesome! Let me know how the trans tune works, when I add a converter I may need to pick your brain, or even possibly have you send me your hptuners trans file..That is if you would be so kind.. We lowered the commanded shift and it worked and shifted vs going into the limiter and not shifting, but still not quite what I would expect. I figure w/ the converter my issue will get worse since I have the blower. Sounds like you are on to something w/ the CTS-V file.

Still getting first gear bucking with the CTS-V tune, not as bad, but I like the rest of it. I'm going methodically through the tune changing one thing at a time to see what helps.

Finally track is in full form. Best today so far:

11.109 @ 128.84, 1.743 sixty.

Loving that MPH.

Back to the lanes.

First time posting in your thread, but i've followed along some... Great run, and that's with trans troubles..... You're headed in the right direction for sure... And that's a nice looking Daily Driver too....
