Just found an intersting opinion why LS3 has 26 more hp than L99. Any comments?

"Just goes to show you (or any person) cant shift as efficiently as the General's automatic. It's just impossible. That is why they gave a few more horses to the standard; to try to make up for imperfect shifting by any person. If you know how to use both pedals on the automatic you will get a better launch with less wheel spin. Was the automatic in competative mode?(Shutting off traction control and stabilitrac)No launch control on automatic but like I said, you don't need it if you use both pedals."

Interesting, was it a real reason for having L99 less powerful?

The less power was nothing more than a result of the VVT cam and a small part of the concave piston heads.

Rear end ratio keeps the auto up with the manual in stock form I guess.

Cool thing is that an L99 with a cam swap you get the original 26hp back along with the respective gains of an equal aftermarket cam. So in theory a cam swap is more beneficial to an auto than a manual. (That is to mean and L99 than an LS3)

Everything has it's pros and cons though. An auto is limited to cam size without a Stall Converter swap too. But the manual might need gears to keep up after that.

And so goes the teeter totter of modding.

But, no. That is not the reason for the power difference. It's all in the VVT.

No, I have no doubt it will happen even may be faster than in 10 years. That is why I want to go with LS3 next year.
… I would anticipate similar thread to appear on the subject of ….”why did you go with hybrid vs automatic” or smth like that. Hhh.. Hybrid SS?!!
There's still plenty of people that like, own and purchase vinyl.

Just an FYI.

That was really straight to the point...
Once I think you gave some explanation on what you mean by "hybrid" but I do not remember what it was. Could you please remind or just paste a link. Thanks.

Automatic driver here.

In the Texas summer, remote start is awesome.

I got an automatic because it was all they had on the 1LT RS's I was looking at on the lot. I told myself when I was looking at buying that I wanted a manual, but I'm actually really glad I got the automatic. My drive to work is about 25 minutes each way, and it's on a road with constant, super heavy traffic and a billion street lights. Sitting back with the automatic makes the idiot drivers a lot more tolerable.

V6 with auto, it has enough power and speed for me, I don't race or anything. The camaro is a beautiful machine. I more or less just chill in my car and enjoy the ride. I can see where manual would be fun, but I don't have many opportunities to go fast enough anyway. Seems like there is a cop around every corner nowadays. For regular commutes to work and back and such, I don't like messing with a clutch. Also my dad used to wake us up at like 5am on school days to come out and hold the flashlight while he worked on the car, and it was always a damn clutch problem. I HATED that, so maybe I am a bit jaded towards manuals.

I drive mine enough that I wanted the driving ease of the auto, plus, if my wife wanted to drive the car I wanted her to feel comfortable. She will not drive it though!!

I went with the cheapest model Camaro I could get, which meant I got a manual. I would have preferred an automatic but I've enjoyed the manual to and from work. Both are fun, it's all personal preference.

Reading the responses crack me up "only real muscle cars have manuals." Guess they don't realize serious drag racers use automatics.
