Just bought my car, 250 miles on it and 2nd gear is grinding/locking out. Its happened for the past 2 days now cold or warm doesnt matter. If I granny it in, it will pop in but its forced.

Just be patient. Put a few more miles on the car. Mine worked itself out and the shifts have gotten significantly better with more miles. Notchiness will probably still be there. But it shouldn't "grind" after some time.

went by my dealer this afternoon. taking the car in on wednesday. hope they get it fixed without and voided warranty talk/issues. service writer said i should be fine.

Yes. Like 2nd gear doesn't exist. Doesn't matter how hard I pull back the shifter. 2-3 is always a issue because u have to avoid the wall between 1st and 3rd. I always hit it in my 97 ss

Hey folks in reading some details I found in a sub -section of C5 forums a link of a post for GM escalation
this may be usefull for other Camaro owners that are having the 1st to 2nd grind bind or lock out issues with there transmissions and there dealer service is not acceptable to resolve the issue you may want to use the escalation process. this could make GM do something about this Bottom line visit you're dealer, if not satisfied then escalate per the procedure in this link http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71421 get issue recorded with dealer keep records for you'reself and escalate to GM if needed, if you read thru that Post there is a GM Service rep that is a C5 Member you can discuss this issue with as well jus-saying if this 1st to 2nd shift transmission issue is this big of an issue GM should take care of the Camaro Consumers.. just my $0.02 |

You're certain this is not a part of the skip-shift feature? Tried shifting at lower/higher RPMs?

Exact same thing happened to me. And it IS a hardware problem because mine would do it without even letting out the clutch, just shifting. I got it fixed at the dealer (they gave me a hard time about it. The problem has just come back today. I took it to the track for the first time and it grinded bad in second :(

dealer said they couldnt find any info in the system about any transmission problems. said the trans felt fine, they compaired it to a used 2010 on the lot. also they couldnt get it to miss 2nd at 5700 rpm. was told to bring it back in when it acts up again

The only way to fix this is report, report, report. Don't be satisfied with anything less than perfection. We deserve to be treated better than this, so escalate the issue to a higher tier in GM if the dealers arent playing along.
