Hey!!!!

This is the 5,000th post in here.

We started this thread wayyy back when there were only rumors of a Z28 and a few people started griping about the rumored engine, the rumored chassis etc. So we created Shno's House to have a place where we could go and discuss the "Z" without bashing. The only real no-no is to post "GM failed because......."

Now the rumor has come true, but the rumored Z28 is now what we know as the ZL1. The most powerful Camaro ever made by GM. And that only immediately fueled the ".....and where is my Z28".

So we have 5,000 posts (I think I have the highest number of them LOL) and 110,000 views. Not many current threads other than "The Wome of Camaro 5 - NSFW" really is higher.

Personally I enjoy most of the discussions we have in this thread. Allways well thought out and that really adds to the substance.

So everyone gets a slice of virtual cake to celebrate this major milestone.

Z28.........hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Mr. Reuss? Hellooooooo. We have customers here with $$$$.

Number 3, how long would it take for gm to test and implement a LS3 with forged internals into a factory car? Also would it be a viable option for a high reving engine cost wise for, I don't know say 2 years before a new generation of engines are released from gm?

Or did you want the full zoot suede interior bits?
I could put real gold plate on the adjusting knobs.

Ha! There you go trying to get me to spill the beans on how quick GM is in product development.

But lets just say it's not very long in product development time but pretty long in customer time. Powertrain tooling can be pretty long lead stuff so it's not just the product development and validation, but getting the plant set up too.

It's also one reason why the Wixom plant exists. Most applications including Hi Performance applications are quite happy with hypereutectic pistons etc.

To keep the cost down, you would need a broader application to get the volume wayyyyy up. LS3 volume, for example, is fairly high in the Corvette and Camaro and is a reasonably cost effective engine. The LS7 and LS9 go in very limited production cars (5,000 and 1,000 units respectively give or take a few) and lend themselves to being hand built at Wixom.

So the question isn't really could you do a forged LS3 variant, but could you put it in enough other products to justify mass production. And that would mean basically either changing over all LS3 production entirely or finding a nice truck program that could also help out with volume.

Realistically, you are still talking a low volume engine and if that's the case then LS7 please.

Would that be solid gold or simply gold plated.

How about forged LS3 in Grand Sport and Z28, while standard vette and SS continue with cast engine. That might be enough volume?

As stated we are not far off from next gen small block appearing, this is where the development hrs are going. The LSA will probably be it until these new engines appear.

Would like to be suprised though!

This is what I kind of figured, so that only leaves the option for the GenV V8 to be placed in the Z28 at the same time as the Vette.

So a buddy of mine just got his dream job working for GM in Turin, aka Torino, Italy, and it got me thinking about my dream job. This all depends on me finishing school someday but I know I would like to do R & D in the aircraft industry but hell working in Italy for GM sounds awesome too.

I think we have some powertrain activities over there that are the last remnants of our Fiat deal. Is he working in powertrain or is it something else?

So is it working for GM or working in Italy or the combination???? that is most interesting for you?

Number 3, a lot of words have been written about the LSA not having forged internals. I heard the LSA was tested at WOT for like 5 days straight, non stop. Realistically, is there any REAL concern about not having forged internal parts in this engine and would forged internals really improve the LSA in any way? Thanks.
