The car was built for the road course but i remember team camaro releasing what appeared to be equal to a high dollar movie trailor of the ZL1 making passes at the DRAGSTRIP. The car comes with LAUNCH CONTROL. Who uses launch control at a road course??? To say the car was only built for the road course is just a lame excuse for its TERRIBLE performance at the dragstrip. The car does perform well on the road course considering how slow it is on the dragstrip. I'll give it that, its very impressive.

Before the 13 GT500 release all ppl said around here is how it stood NO CHANCE on the road course against the ZL1. Then reality came. The GT500 is every bit as fast and faster on more than on instance.

Hell one of the reviews had the ZL1 going around the road course NO faster than the 12 GT500.

Sorry i fell for the HYPE. I expected the ZL1 to blow the GT500 out of the water on the road course. Thats what Al O had us believing. Sorry that im holding team camaro accountable for not delivering. If everyone else were like me maybe team camaro would address the issues...

It's not always what he says but how he says it. We all know the zl1 is slower but it's gets old when people like him constantly bash the car and call out its flaws it gets old. Yes alot of us defended it by believing mr.o and we were all let down and had to swallow our pride on its 1320 showing but the car is still amazing for the weight it pulls around and the the overall package it delievers and let's face it nobody is buying either car to be a drag only or track only car there buying it for its ability to do everything which they do but both have thier pros and cons.

Also the fact that its not even competitive at the drag strip, hold them accoutable and demand answers maybe that Shelby would be seeing the ZL1's tail lights more often.

But as long as they are selling them and the customers arent saying anything NOTHING is going to change.

Im willing to bet GM will NOT have a answer for the Shelby with the 5th Gen platform. Im also willing to bet if the owners would have demanded better from the jump that they would have made some changes. Not saying they would have slapped a LS9 in there cause they wouldnt have. Could have been something like adding a reservoir and much larger heat exchanger. Or maybe even taking the intercooler design from the LS9 so the IAT's arent super high and the damn thing isn't pulling 10* of timing. Id be shocked if the car is making 500bhp with all that timing being pulled, which would explain the 112mph traps.

A few small improvements would have made a HUGE difference!!

Ive said something similar to what you've said many times. Not necessarily to harp on the camaro guys(well at first maybe) but rather bring up a solid point that needs to be brought to GM's attention. There's no way in hell I'd want a car that you advertise at 580 but then heatsoaks almost immediately and pulls 10-20 hp right off the bat. The camaro community really does need to let gm know about this and not just continue to defend because of pride.

You're the first zl1 person to admit to being duped by Al O and gm. I have read some of his post and can definitely see where you are coming from. Wording, especially on the Internet, really has a fine line and that's why I've mostly attempted to be as "nice" when it comes to making a debatable post. There's no doubt this car is well rounded. What pisses me off is gm took shortcuts and screwed you guys over. There should be no reason a track-ready car should skimp out on the cooling system and gm completely took the cheap road. 3 parts(a real hx, reservoir, and intercooler) would REALLY make this car an overall great ride. If gm got enough heat from you guys about this maybe they'd at least changed it up for the next gen camaro. It really is unacceptable and I'm actually pissed for you guys.

You are forgetting the fact that not only did the cobra not perform better it was recalled and then they stopped making it because it didn't even make the HP they claimed. Chevy claimed a 11 second pass and when it cools down some the car will run that time and once it does then Chevy didn't lie they never said low 11's or lay claim to any certain mph so chevy's claims arent far off even though it should be able to do 11's all the time IMO. You said we should be mad that the gt500 is even close on the road course why it doesn't handle better that's been provin it just goes from turn to turn faster that's not the same as handling the same. Last but not least the ZL1 was not built to go against the 13 gt500 is was targeted towards the 12 and we all now that it just so happened ford answered back isn't that what happens when you in a "competition" with someone?

Hope you are referring to the 99-01 as not making the hp they claimed because in most instances i saw the 03-04 made nearly the advertised crank hp at the wheels. Everyone knows the 99-01 was a turd, but at least ford put out a recall to try and fix it (didnt help much). Why hasnt GM stepped up with a tune? Or at least a explanation on why the zl1 is not performing up to any of the advertised numbers? Could almost call it false advertising.
