You know, there was a segment near the end where someone asked about this, and John said that something wasn't understood properly. I heard him mention there may not even be a constraint on the V8....so maybe that's where I feel a little more confident on the issue....

I know we will find out soon enough, with a little patience.

Greg and Scotty,
Are they going to give priority to the Lt1 & Lt2 ? How will that play out for my LS?

1. To all those people that thought they were going to have their car in March or April, I am sorry, but I told you so. I said it time and time again in various threads that people were setting themselves up for crushed expectations. I feel bad for those folks who have a lease up or are coming back from overseas or whatever.

2. To GM, I think there is a valuable lesson to be learned here. Share key information critical to customers DIRECTLY with the customers. This whole deal about pre-ordered and V8/V6 allocation split is nuts. If they knew they could only produce a 50/50 split, they should have told us that up front, at least for those folks pre-ordering. Many of us signed up for more information from the Camaro site and have gotten nothing. I would have been more than happy to tell them that I wanted a V8 in order to help them plan better ahead of time. I even completed that stupid initial survey on features and accessories. I am not mad or unhappy, but I can see why many people would be and I don't blame anyone for their anger.

3. I still think that GM could be more open with the enthusiasts like us. I feel a little taken advantage of by the whole pre-ordering process. If they wanted to conduct a marketing study, just call it that and don't get my hopes up.

4. I still plan on keeping my order in place. I am not cancelling or anything at this point. I don't need a new car. I want a Camaro. It just means more time for me to save money.

I hope that everyone comes to peace with the information released today. I hope that we have all learned something and that includes GM. Take a deep breath and try to just relax for a minute before jumping to any concrete conclusion. To anyone listening from GM, treat us like enthusiasts, not idiots.
Well said but i think this just ruined my day, will we all atleast get our cars by October?

Thanks for the answers scotty. I know they're not actual yes/no answers but it's nice to know what the deal is. I really wish they would be more forthcoming with this stuff even if the answer is "we're working on it."

At the very least, this is a horrible PR gaffe from GM, a company with one foot in the grave and one that can ill afford any more bad press.

SS customers are the true enthusiasts, the men and women most likely to be evangelical in promoting these cars.

They also represent 80 percent of the pre-orders and most of them already have paid a deposit AND agreed to pay sticker for their cars. How many buyers of GM products can you say that about?

It's STUPID to piss these people off. In fact, these are the customers who GM should be going out of its way to do the right thing by.

The CAFE explanation makes sense as a reason for the delay, but it should have been communicated to buyers last October.

Instead, literally thousands of SS customers are going to get their cars late this year or even in 2010 after having an order in place for a year or more. And I bet a fair number will cancel their orders as a result.

I doubt that many - if any - SS buyers were told that SS models were a limited production car with highly restricted availability.

To find out five weeks before production was scheduled to begin that your SS might not be ready until 2010 is a swift and unwelcome kick in the groin.

WAY TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR BEST CUSTOMERS, GM!

Let's get something straight here people...

GM is going to build you the car you ordered, regardless of how much time it will take. As someone mentioned, the current 10,000 orders will be built in around 3 months. Oshawa is a VERY capable production facility.

So to everyone who ordered a V8, you will NOT be forced to take a V6. You will receive your Camaro SS.
