Unhappy ***SOPHIE'S PASSING***

Dear SoCal Camaro Family,

On February 9, 2011 a number of Camaro owners came to Simi Valley to help raise money for our little neighbor girl Sophie . It was a fantastic success. Sophie suffered with two rare forms of leukemia and required immediate bone marrow transplants. She had two of them and both were unsuccessful.

She has fought valiantly like no other child we have ever seen. Tonight her battle is over. She passed with family at her side. It is traumatic for everyone who knows this family and little Sophie. Her suffering is over and she is out that horrendous pain she has battled since she was 2 years old.

I want you all to know how much the family appreciates your support and they had continued to talk about the night the Camaros came out for Sophie!

I am posting a photo that was taken a few days ago of Sophie as she rode her bike with her Dad in tow. She was a sweet beautiful child who will forever remain in our hearts and memories.

Thanks again SoCal C5 Family! Your generosity and friendship will be remembered for years to come.

Wow I am very sorry to hear this news I honestly wish I would have seen the thread for the cruise, I know her suffering is over but still just sucks knowing a life was taken so young. I really hope for the best for her family in these hard times.

My condolences to the family and you and yours for this loss. I'm sure she was a bright spot to everyone that was in her life and her light will continue to shine over those that she cherishes most. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time. God Bless Sophie.

Thank you. I will pass your kind thoughts to the family. The reality of it all hasn't sunken in with them yet. They were taking turns amongst family members for 3 years taking shifts at City of Hope so Sophie was never alone. A family member or two were always with her. City of Hope is 60 miles one way from their home. They left Sophie for the first and last time yesterday. Parents should not have to bury their children.

Jim,

Congratulations on 25 years of marriage to an obviously wonderful woman. I look forward to that milestone... now you can look forward to the golden anniversary...

I am also sorry to hear of the passing of Sophie... The bravery and fight displayed by so many during times like this is still an amazing tribute to humanity... and it certainly minimizes what we perceive to be significant challenges in our lives...

Sophie and her Family are in my prayers....

Why am I here? It is about the cars and people. I find this to be a very fascinating website and I find the 5th generation Camaro to be a very intriguing social tool to bring good people together for fun events and I hope some charitable times too.

What is my motivation? Short story... In 1976 bought my brothers 1969 SS 396 Camaro from him after we did an engine swap in it and he discovered he didn't like how much horsepower it had in it! My gain, his safety!

In 1978 I decided to try and become a firefighter and went to a local fire station and applied as a reserve firefighter. Being 22 years of age the "sage" old fire guys told me I needed to sell my Camaro so that my driving record would remain clean otherwise I wouldn't be able to get hired. At the time that sounded like the mature thing to do. WHAT WAS I THINKING??? I sold my Camaro for $1600 and bought a VEGA!!! Again...WHAT WAS I THINKING! The minute I sold the Camaro I was sick and swore that someday I would buy another one. I have owned a lot of cars since that time. So now after 32 years in emergency services the time has come to buy that Camaro I always promised myself. Some folks around me are probably saying... "What is he thinking?" My answer... I believe the Gen 5 Camaro is one of the finest new cars GM has built since 1969!

Here is a photo of me and my Hugger Orange 1969 Camaro in 1978 giving her a bath. Oh to be young, skinny and dark haired again!

And...33 years later...the new Orange Krate and Me!

By the way, those photos were taken at the exact same location in Thousand Oaks, CA. (My parents house)
Just saw your pictures awesome!!!

Orange Krate gets NEW SHOES!

It finally happened! Today I was able to take Orange Krate up to Santa Clarita, CA (near Magic Mountain) and see the nice folks at Cal Chrome. I bought Orange Krate some OEM 20" wheels in the chromed variety. It really does make a difference from the polished aluminum RS. Orange Krate is happy, I am happy and for some reason the car seemed to pick up 20 horsepower.

Of course I am kidding about the horsepower but he sure handles well and he is a bit prouder as we roll down the road. Cal Chrome took some photos of Orange Krate and I was told they will post them up on their website. I chatted with the owner and he seems like a good guy. I was punctual and so were they. The work seemed to be first class.

http://www.calchrome.com/

I will take some more pro photos after I detail the car. The photos below are from my cell phone.
