I'm probably going from a GMC back to a Chevrolet in a year or two.

I agree Pontiac and Oldsmobile had to go, but thought Buick should have gone as well. My father went from Olds to Buick and refuses to go to Cadillac, but has considered a few Chevrolet’s. As I said before, GM is lucky people like him exist. Dealers keep treating him like shit, and he refuses to buy anything else. He paid cash for his last 3 cars brand new. I sat with him for two horrible experiences and we walked out. My Honda buying experience was beyond belief good. One day they’ll learn. If my dad wasn’t so stubborn, he’d have a US made Lexus or Acura instead of his Chinese Buick.

GM Ran Olds into the ground Olds was just under Caddy in what they offered, GM dropped the cars that loyal Olds people were buying. In turn they offered nothing in return and those people left GM. My dad would not buy anything other than Olds he thought Chevy was to low rent and didnt like the crap GM was making in 91 when he traded in his 81 Olds Cutlass so he went to the Cougar as he wanted something RWD and as large as the Cutlass. GM mistakes that were made in the late 80's hurt Olds, Pontiac and Buick to the point they had to close 2 of them down and no one would care if Buick was next

Canceling RWD was a huge mistake as was the severe downsizing.

Perhaps your father should have bought a first year Bravada. It was closer to a traditional Olds. And it was ahead of the SUV curve. I still wouldn't mind getting a pre-round logo year. But maybe to re-badge a 2 door S15 Jimmy. The CAFE footprint rules suck. Really, those old cars are more roomy in people's memory.

I know CAFE was different at the time. It's just such rules make it less likely for companies to make desirable smaller vehicles nowadays. Sorry to digress.

I think everyone would agree Roger Smith ran GM into the ground, although he was handicapped by horribly overpaid union labor and legacy costs.
