I've had Corvettes for years (C4s, C5s and a first year C6) and the stock tires were never as useless in cold temperatures as my PZeros on the Camaro. We typically don't get much snow in Northern Virginia (save for this year) and I've never purchased winter tires before. With this car and the PZeros, I had to (not because of the snow this year, but because the tires are generally useless below 40 degrees).
I've been driving with the PZeros in -20F, I've had no problems at all. As soon as snow touches the ground it's a whole different story, but from a pure temperature standpoint it's not an issue at all.

From the thread title I would believe he is in total agreement, just trying to pass info along. Problem is, his target audience is a group of car enthusiasts who already know this. Maybe the next time these people go to purchase a vehicle, they'll do some research instead of just buying something because it's pretty.

Basically OP's friend is a moron who didn't know his product despite his employment with a Chevrolet dealer and is now trying to blame his stupidity and lack of knowledge on GM.

Probably one of those sales guys who has to read the window sticker to tell you what engine a car has.

Super Secret Hidden Bulletin: Note the March 2011 date

Picture of said NJ Girl that crashed her 1LE and blamed the tires: Note picture is from last year before 1LE purchase...Note previous car had 145hp < May have been part of the issue...GM should put a HP warning on the car as well!

I'll agree that they are useless below 40 degrees. You have to take into account, where other people are living. In the Pacific Northwest, the sub 40 temps are usually accompanied by wet roads. Put the two together, and the summer tires are garbage.

It's like being shocked that a rear wheel drive Camaro sucks in the snow. Duhh! It's like people who buy Regal GS' here with 20" tires and complain about how bad they handle in the snow.

Actually from what has been posted by several members the Camaro is a beast in the snow with the right tires.

Beware 1LE owners & wanna be owners

This is the best thread of the day! A few of the responses have literally made me LOL! Thanks for making my early morning at the airport bearable!

BTW- I'm still pissed that the splitter on the front of my ZL1 isn't really made to plow snow. I guess that makes since since the tires suck in the cold too. Why didn't my dealer warn me!

Confusing to read. Sharing a story or telling a story. (I) is being used thinking its the op because in his avatar he doesn't own a 1LE so must be a copy and paste story.

LOL...you have an FJ cruiser, wtf are you worried about driving the Camaro in the colder weather then? And...if you must drive the car in it, buy different tires. Stupid to damn the car and GM because it doesn't handle well in the temps below 40 degrees. This whole thread is full of fail...

LOL!!

I just found out that I can not haul a 5th wheel trailer with mine, and I have it on good authority that GM knows about this issue but is keeping it super secret. This is unacceptable. I will be trading mine in for a new Impala which should be able to pull a 5th wheel easily!

Seriously though, the 1LE and ZL1 are marketed as "track cars". At some point doesn't the consumer have to assume some responsibility in the purchase of a car and what it is used for?

This is pretty funny, actually. Why didn't the OP's friend just change the tires? They obviously didn't lease the car to take on the track, so non-track tires shouldn't matter. Also, what the hell is he talking about with "THE 1LE ALSO HAS NO TRACTION CONTROL EITHER WHICH MAKES THE CAR COMPLETELY USELESS IN 75 % OF THE TIME". Sounds like someone has no idea what they are talking about!
