I don't allow eating in my car, but I'm certainly not going to deprive my wife of her morning coffee. Her car usually looks like a dumpster inside, but she is gradually getting better. She is respectful of my car, but she certainly doesn't like being told what to do. If I go on too long about what to do and what not to do when driving my car she will threaten to hit it with a hammer! |

I do all that stuff in my camaro
When I first got mine, I tried to enforce all these rules, but eventually just became more relaxed with it. I don't let people put feet on my dash, but that is pretty much it. i learned that if I am constantly worried about little things, I won't be able to enjoy driving it |

Only issue I have is the way my wife sits in my car. She likes to slide in against the bolster and it stays like that unless she sits forward. Leaves a lot of crease marks in the leather.

I can trust my wife to be responsible to not trash my Camaro. I do have similar rules for my kids though. Those boys are dirty little pigs.

Why is everyone saying that their wife and kids are more important then their Camaro? Of course they are, but having a few rules that protect your investment wont cause you to lose them. If your gonna lose your wife and kid over a few rules, then you have bigger issues.
Some people don't respect your car, its simple! But if that cause you to lose a Spouse/Friend/Kid/Dog than you have some other major issues.

Those rules are kinda strong but there are some rules you don't do to a car in general. Closing the door by the glass. Smoking in it. Doesn't matter how much the car costs. Treat someone's vehicle with respect.
But food and drink can be cleaned up if it spills or leaves crumbs. Heavy lotions and perfumes? They shouldn't be putting that stuff on in the first place. Constant male farts do more lasting damage to the leather seats than cool cucumber body lotion. |

I used to have rules for my car until my girl gave me the highway surprise.
Now I let her do whatever she damn well pleases. |

My rules apply to everyone else. My wife is the only one I trust with the car.

some good responses, maybe i am a little nit-picky. the wifes and daughters cars are usually a mess, its just not important to them to have it cleaned unless i do it or take it to get washed somewhere. i do almost the same with my DD driver (2000 F250 with 199K miles on it) but not that extreme, and my leather is not damaged or stained and the paint still looks very good. since i have owned my old beater truck, i have purchased 2 vehicles for my wife and 1 for the kid when she graduated. so they dont get the care i think they should, but its not my car.
btw, my wife and i have been married for over 30 years, so let me clarify that they are more recommendations than rules and she respect what i prefer with my car...besides, I am saving it for my grandson when he gets of driving age. comrando, i am way north of 18....add 34 years.
