The actual mistake though, was not running.

Do the math, you see a cop and you are going 100 + and you floor it. As long as your car runs at least low 14s you'll be able to get to the next exit and make yourself hidden before he catches up. He has to react to how fast you are going, then play catch up. By the time you pass him you could be going at least 110. Fast enough that he CANNOT get your plate #. Then he still has to equal your speed before he can even start to close the gap. The gap will continue to widen until he hits whatever speed you are at, which would be 140 by the time he hits 100.

I'm just kidding though don't run! All of the above is a joke =]
lol i actually did something similar to that and got away...so it does work, but i don't recommend it. I was 18 and didn't want a ticket.

Lol not that I'm condoning it but I'm just making the point that a stationary cop car or a cop car under 35 mph passed by a car traveling 90 or greater is immune to license plate detection.

I felt the same as the op when I got my first ticket. But I must say, the feeling wears thin over time when your in a hot car, and soon your right back to the same thing. I hope he has more self control then I had when I was young.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll be fine. Ask your parents how many tickets they've gotten over the years. You might be surprised.

Way to man up young man. Take it from an old geezer - trying to avoid responsibility isn't worth the effort. Props to you.

Tickets happen. I've had many. 2 in the same month with my Camaro within my first 90 days of ownership.

Its not the end of the world. Did the judge make you write that or something????

Over the last 10 or so years... 66 in 55, 67 in 55, another 66 in 55, 56 in 45 (see a trend here) LOL. Not to mention the 91 in a 55 (super nice lady said I was over 3 digits but wrote me down since i was accomodating) Currently I have only 2 points on my DL. I would have been scott free clean Oct 2010 but i got picked up in like July for the last 66 in 55. Not once in the Camaro. Most in my truck...

I dont see the need to get all mushy over a ticket. it happens and everyone on here (dont try to deny it) has opened their car up and exceeded the legal limit. if you say you havent.
You've been driving for how long, now? Everyone's first speeding ticket is a PITA and a novel learning experience. I got my first speeding ticket when I "opened it up" in an '89 Plymouth Caravelle (90 in a 65, as I recall), and yeah I felt a lot like the OP did. Doesn't mean I didn't chill out on it a couple tickets later, but the vast majority of us probably didn't take it in stride on the first one. Not the least of which because at that age, as opposed to yours and mine, paying off a ticket isn't as economically feasible. Give the guy a break.

To the OP, it's a bitter pill to swallow, but it's a valuable lesson learned all the same. In a lot of jurisdictions 10-15mph over the limit is the most you can get away with not including residential areas, and that's a good rule to follow. If you get to know the area and the police patrol routes reasonably well over time you can most likely get away with a hard acceleration here and there, but just remember the longer you spend going fast the better the chance of getting caught - or worse, hurting someone.

i try and keep her no more than 5% over the limit. sometimes i get to 10% over and my dic flashes me, to remind me to slow up a tad.
wanna go wide open for a bit, take it to the track.
i praise the post of the OP.
now this car can and will get you pulled over anyways....i used the paddle shifts to downshift for a red light , and an undercover cop (who refused to show me identification--but knew my name and wifes name and where i lived) pulled me over. i was approx 3kph over the limit. (2 mph).
after the lecture of me "revving the shit out of my car to get attn", he told me he wanted to write me up for careless driving.....if only he had a summons book. rofl.
i am over 40. i called up my contacts in undercover, and informed them of this stop,
and he was busted down to spotting stolen plates for leaving a priority tasking to hassle me over nothing. i have not been pulled over in a decade,
but your fooling yourself if you think poor driving goes un-noticed. since the days of the motorolla brick cell phone, many many people have been reported to the authorities.

it's a ticket, get over it. dont be stupid again.
I think his attitude and the way he's handled it should be commended especially since he's a teen and SO many teenagers (not all and not only teens) are irresponsible when it comes to driving.

And because of his attitude he probably won't get a ticket again and/or won't be a statistic.

As you get older, your decisions just get more and more expensive. Something to look forward to...

Oh and for a radar detector in Virginia.... thats a BIG NO NO.... thats a $85.00 fine off the bat not including the ticket you about to get and they confiscate the detector at that. My dumb @$$ uncle got mines taken when I let him borrow mines
