The local law enforcement will have a record if it was repo'd ...

No they wouldn't. Most police departments don't keep upbwith repos in their city. I'm a police officer and I see repo trucks running around all the time. That doesn't necessarily mean I know what they are doing there. Unless the repo guy made a call to the police department then the police aren't going to call. I can say this how it works in my city. Every city has different regulations and procedures.

Yeah, my initial thought was 'repo' as well. The bank can repo it for reasons other than being behind on your payments as well.

In phoenix they are required to notify the department within 1 hour of towing a car for repossessions or parking violations. That way it eliminates the repo issue right away.
