Usually it gives them PC to run your info. Typically you get a warning, unless the officer had a bad day, is an outright jerk, or the driver talks themselves into one.

I don't have a front plate and haven't been pulled over. It's weird bc in my old car I didn't either and for that I got pulled over right away. I've had my car for about 4 months and been everywhere in guess it's just in the mood of the cop that day.

I second that!
I'll invest in a hideaway automatic if I ever get a warning though.

Front License Plate Myth! Texas

Saw this in the news today : I don't believe it's new but it was being discussed. HB 625 clarifies that the penalty for operating a vehicle on a public highway without displaying the two license plates assigned to the vehicle is a misdemeanor offense punishable by a fine not to exceed $200.

FYI a plate on the dash is the same as no plate, except more dangerous in the event of an accident , AND it draws attention to the fact that it is not on the front of your car.

Nebraska requires a front plate... Before I got the JacFab front mount, I did some research to see if there was a possibility that they'd change the law. All I could find was where they had thought about it (the State Legislature), but decided to keep the 2 plate requirement because making everybody buy two plates instead of one gave them more revenue!
Comes down to money :-(

Law enforcement locals and DPS fight hard against doing away with front plates every time it comes up. Very few people copy a front plate when a crime is committed. The front plate provides a good target point for lasers.

Texas should wake up to another source of revenue. I and others I spoken to would pay an additional $10 - $20 per year for an exemption (do a sticker for rear plate or printer on windshield registration sticker) to the front plate. Texas is already doing so many speciality plates for extra revenue. Making one plate has to cut costs. The holes kill my resale value if the buyer is from a one plate state. All the other attachments I have seen are not stable and cause rub damage.

On a side note, I got pulled over this Saturday. 97 in a 70. Made no comment about no front license plate nor the limo tint.

Okay I don't know if anybody has posted it yet, and you can go to your local courthouse or call to confirm.

BUT the way this works is YES, it is now a $200 fine IF the cop decides to be a dick and write you up on it. I would say 95% of the time they will give you a written warning.

***IMPORTANT PART HERE***

IF YOU GET A TICKET, it is what is known as a correctable offense, like not having your drivers license on you.

You go to the court house, show them that you put your front plate on (basically zip tie it to your grille for 2 minutes) and you pay $5-$10 and the ticket is dismissed.

Then you walk out of the court house, cut the zip ties, and go about your business.

I refuse to put a front plate on my car, I'll make 10 trips to the court house and keep annoying them with it. Doesn't bother me!

(PS I've been pulled over without and never ticketed, and pulled over with it in my windshield and never bothered about it)
