Thanks ketelOne - it WAS the credit union that gave me the "pre-decline" - that said - me thinks they didn't have all the info necessary - since I worked thru our company rep - so I'm planning on a follow-up in the am, and see if things change..

I have what I'd call... "not terrible" credit. My credit took a dive bomb when I was in the military and had a STAR card that I couldn't get paid while on deployment (they wouldn't accept payments from my wife even with a power of attorney).

Slowly but surely it's gone up but I don't have any credit cards (I cut them up after that fiasco). So I really can't build on my credit unless I have them (catch 22).

So, when I went to apply for the car, I took a lot into consideration. I ended up choosing a 1LT with a lot of upgrades as opposed to a 1SS. I plan on having this car paid off by July of 2012 and getting a 2SS or Z-28 that year as a play toy. But this V6 is my daily driver and it serves the purpose with a solid punch.

Anyway, my suggestion is to seek out Capital One. Credit Unions are about the best way to get approved especially if you have one that's associated with your workplace (Medical Credit Union, Law Enforcement, etc). I on the other hand got approved through Capital One for the price of the car with no issues. I dropped almost a thousand in cash, and will be doubling down payments over the next 24 months.

Should significantly boost my credit by paying this off. I imagine that if I need to go longer than the 24 months, I can always re-finance with my current bank for a lower percentage. But I don't foresee that happening.

Finally..

first off - thanks to all for their input - great that so many of us our passionate about the 5th generation.

Worked it out with the credit union - and after some thought of what I need (not want) for now - decided on the V6..

a 2011 CGM LS

Decided that short term, the V6 fits my driving style, and all the stuff about lower cost of ownership, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love the SGM color (it would have been great as an LS) - yet the 5k premium the local dealers wanted over the base LM doesn't make financial sense.

The credit union made the numbers work (found out I still could have done the 1SS, btw..) and I didn't have to be at the dealer, I picked it up at the cu earlier today. Not planning on driving with the ribbon either..

I will give kudos to SCE Credit Union for any of the SoCal locals - they made this purchase absolutely seem less.

On to the mods!
