Might be able to make it, Im game for sgmp, if work doesnt pull a fast one and make me work that weekend I should be good. I just used most of my time off to go to Greece in late October, though, so no more vacation pay for a while..

Gville is 4+ hours for me and 3.25 hours to SGMP. So I'm good for both locations. It all about getting together with others and having a good time. 2 hours shouldn't makes a difference in a 2 day trip. JMO

Agreed, for those of us in the western panhandle, Gainesville is 4-1/2+ hours and SGMP is 4+ hours. Either location is a great roadtrip, my thoughts though are U of F will be having Homecoming, so traffic in town will be pretty bad as well as dining. Seems to me SGMP is fairly central for those is central florida as well as the western panhandle and traffic and dining may be a little more accomodating. For those in between it is still mostly a coin flip distance wise.

Therefore, as I close this disertation and get prepared to be blasted on how one or the other is better suited, I will leave with this: I still have a day's vacation from last year I have to use by December 1st so I will make the trek to whichever location is chosen. Just want to, as Mimi put it, "do a little meetin, a little greetin, a little eatin, and a little streetin" and maybe a little

Edit: Scrmin' Mimi will not be able to make the trip, so I added the last part to her quote. May have to add it twice...

Now that we have found an acceptable hotel in Gainesville, which is more than 6 miles from the Florida field, and less than 5 miles from the raceway, we are getting a lot of push from the Orlando and Tampa bunch for that location. It is the "most" central location for all the groups involved, which is why guiLT and I started to talk about that one in the beginning. I have personally raced at that track and it is a very good venue. However, we all know that SGMP is stellar too. So rest assured that this awesome meet & greet will take place in a good, safe location for our beautiful cars.

My plan was to substitute this trip for a big weekend Corvette event that I usually do in Tampa that weekend but has been cancelled. I don't think I want to travel as far as SGMP since I don't drag race anyway and would go more for socializing. Gainesville is not too bad as long as you stay away from the immediate school area. I've been a season ticket holder for 14+ years so I know from experience...Obviously that puts my vote for G'ville!

Indicators are pointing to Gainesville. The hotel we have found is on the North side of Gainesville, well away from the school, and is probably one of the closest to the track, with a route that completely avoids the crowded streets of G-ville. It is about 20 minutes from the track. There is a restaurant on site, and a couple of others close by (Sonny's b-b-q, an Italian Restaurant, and several fast food places...no steakhouse though :( )

Still working on an overflow hotel in case we need more than about 60 rooms.

I don't think they are requiring double occupancy. It is a straight rate! But don't book just yet....contract has not been finalized, so they won't know who you are just yet!!!
