BTW, I will escalate this. I think it is a valid point. I just get tweaked when someone calls people idiots simply because they have a gripe. I read almost every post on Camaro5 members dislikes and I will forward the post to an engineer or manager. My sarcastic earlier post was just to remind everyone that these things aren't engineered in a vacuum. GM has more experience with HUD than any one else except the Air Force.

Love my 2SS '10 without HUD. Had 2 vettes in a row with HUD, only because it was forced in a package, never used it once in either.

I wish they'd make stuff like HUD, XM, Onstar, heated seats and rear defogger in a summer sports car... free flow options (that I will never buy). I've bought many new vehicles, paid for all those options over and over, and never used them once. Make them free flow or a separate package from the 2SS

I agree you shouldn't start calling people idiots because of a matter of taste in this feature or that, but putting an advertisement in the HUD display is pretty hostile. I mean, GM has taken an otherwise very cool feature and turned it into a bit of a joke. Imagine taking off in your camaro, then hearing through the system speakers:

"60 MPH brought to you by Kellogs Frosted Flakes!"

Again I appreciate the work put into the Camaro. Great looking car. But this decision lacked some common sense. Just waiting for the Autoblog post: Camaro HUD used for Advertisements!

I have never seen any advertising /commercials on my HUD.... it does display the name of the song, but that is not an advertisement.

Do you think hes not aware that he can look at the tach. The point....THE WHOLE POINT of a HUD is so you dont have to look down. Its a performance car...not a friggin middle age friendly minivan. Its stupid to have the ads override the tach.

Well, reality is if the OP had phrased it as question and not used statements like "Who is the Idiot at GM that thought this up and the bigger idiot that signed off on it!" and put "idiotic GM programming" in the title of the thread he would have gotten much different responses and tones.


I don't remember ever seeing a commercial on my hud. I have seen song names and wonder if the advertisers are using the same functionality as the song names rather than GM adding ads to the hud.

Interesting. When I got my 2010 the one thing I missed from my Grand Prix was the heads up then I saw it available in 2011 and went DOH. Now I'm feeling better about not having the HUD since folks seem not to like it so much. Who am I kidding? I still wish I had it. Then I wouldn't have to have my seat adjusted just so in order to see the regular tach (I'm tall and getting the seat adjusted so I don't hit the ceiling and can still see the tach has been a process)

Are we REALLY bitching over ads that are ONLY present on talk radio ONLY on XM...

They DON'T appear on AM/FM...they DON'T appear on any other output device or CD...and they also don't appear on the XM MUSIC CHANNELS!!...it is only the channels such as sports, talk, and entertainment...ya know, the channels that AM/FM hardly ever provide (at least not with quality)...XM is the only company that has install code to send that information to their subscribers because most of them have stand alone receiver that has a visible screen. Now if this was on AM/FM at all times of the day, I would agree with your complaints...kicker is... in 3 months you won't have to deal with it anymore
