Negative...IF it is offered it will be very much like the HUD in the corvette, if not more simplistic. They wont over step the corvette and ESPECIALLY wont out do the ZR1 when customers are dropping 100k.

The issue for many isn't the fact that it wont be offered but the uncertainty from ANYONE you ask. No one seems to know about the HUD, when, or even IF it will come out. Now some people are saying ambient lighting is not on the order sheets?

You may think we are whiners, but I work in a career field that will never make 100k. That's ok because I love my job, but I also love this car. I love each gen in its own unique way. I want this car perfect...and I also want it to have some of the technology that is offered in this day in age, so save this bashing of "its a muscle car..it doesnt need 9 speakers or HUD". Just save it, If I want shotty speakers with nothing but engine ill get back in the old 4th gen. That is what I loved about it, but this is not 4th gen.

Then comment stated early was that GM did not create the video of the camaro for "iginition"....again, save it....they put it on the FRONT page of chevy.com/camaro and even sent me an email about the video. I have no lack of trust in GM, I love GM, but this car needs to be perfect upon production day #1!!...not July, Dec 09, or MY 2011. Bull S---, Im dropping 35K+, the technology is already there, you dropped it on your websites and advertised and spoke about ambient lighting at international car shows and now all the sudden we have this confusion and everyone is uncertain WHAT we can actually purchase or add on with accersories.

It is a hard economic time, no doubt in that...but it is just as hard for us and I would expect the best damn product I can get for the money I will spend...yes...under the hood I am VERY PLEASED, but with this being my dream car, it better be just as good in the passenger compartment.

...apologize for the rant

That seems odd. Maybe it was made by GM then? I doubt they'd put something made by some random fan on their website. I didn't know it was on there. But, it was semi-officially reported (by camaroscotty) that HUD would be available next December soo... i dunno. Definitely confusing.

I don't care WHO made the video... whomever it was did so at the direction of GM. An ad agency or contractor? Who cares. GM supplied them with the geometry and such and had them make it to their spec.

It was 100% ____ tease...

Personally, I could care less about the HUD on my car. I dont want it but at the same time I hope they offer it for the ones that do want it. They NEED to offer everything they can for this car! And as far as going 150mph on a track, show me the car that has hud that is going 150 on any track. If I want to do 150 ill get back on a bike!

ZR1? are we talking a strip or track? I don't know...the basis is just that (I know I am preaching to the choir) this is our dream car and I think its a slap in the face to those who order early don't have the benefit of all available packages...I know each MY tends to add some perks here in there but damn...come on

HUD would be nice for those who really want it. Personally, I'm sure I'd find it WAY TOO DISTRACTING. Your eyes couldn't help but be pulled down to it instead of scanning your surroundings. I also hate just about any kind of gage that uses a digital format as opposed to an old school analog style. With digital you HAVE to read it. With analog you can just take a very quick glance and know what's what.

To any of you cops here...I'd love to hear some of your stories about pulling over guys who were running their HUD's, and how they tried to weasel their way out of the ticket you were about to write. How did those conversations go when you asked them how fast their HUD said they were going?

On a side note, if they made a HUD with a cross hair focused to infinity, I'd be all over that!!!

Since most car makers put options as part of a package usually these days I can see the possibility of HUD being available on the 2SS trim level and a slight possibility of being available a la carte on 1SS and maybe 2LT.

Like a few others on this thread, I do remember seeing in some literature leaked in July that HUD would be available in late '09. Same as White paint, available later in '09.

There has not to my knowledge been anything from GM to say it will not make it into the Camaro later in the model year.

I know some of these threads do little to inform or educate anyone. Some are entertaining to an extent. Take this thread for instance. If not for the sake of members posting rediculous comments and arguing over options they don't even want or even like or for that matter know a damn thing about, this thread would have died a long time ago.

I was going to say this thread was pointless and useless but here I am writing at least the 50th post. It's hard not to try to set the facts straight when there are so many assumptions and just plain BS posted.

Where did anyone get the idea that HUD would not be available as in never? Only thing I've seen about HUD being totally canceled is what i've seen here. Other than that, it's still my understanding it will become available later in the year. Funny thing is, we will get a lot of info that should answer most of the questions on this site that are still pending answers on the 9th but we will continue to see some rumors and dumb questions.

I was under the impression that it was made by a fan, not a an ad agency or GM (and that's what I was referring to in my previous posts).

I'm almost 99% positive The vid is GM produced. But, I haven't done the search I need to in order to prove it.

I'll get back to you if another Mod doesn't beat me to it.

It's irrelevant...civilian speedometers/HUD, 99% of the time are not calibrated or maintained. Subsequently no matter what your HUD says, even if you are being 100% honest, can be anywhere between 1-8 mph off the correct/actual speed even on day #1 from the lot and that defense argument won't stand up nor will a judge honor it....it is not because he thinks that person is lying..

Yea, there is nothing wrong in what your saying as far as a "fan", gm, or someone supplied through GM..who knows?

I guess the thing that steams many people is they put it on their page and then inform us weeks later ...oh yea it wont be available at launch. It's a bit annoying if you are one of the few who wanted to own this car at launch because it is a dream car for many of us and we don't get the same options that may be available in late 09?....again, none of this is directed towards you so we apologize if it came off that way...but hey, you ordered yours as well, and wouldn't you want everything that would be available later in the year? I am sure you will be able to add it through GM later but that seems like it may be a hassle and more expensive.

From the pictures I have seen there are HUDs on cars that have a digital bar-graph (analog equivalent) format option for the display of various parameters.

Also, HUD is about as close as the display on an F1 car as you could get. Their instruments display in a pod on the steering wheel, which is right below their line of sight, just like a HUD.

On newer vehicles, the speedometer is computer controlled and is accurate within 0-3 mph depending on your speed and rate of acceleration. And yes it is currently a legal defense that your speedometer is off and if used the judge has to allow you a minimum of 30 days to get it looked at, prove that it was off, and get it fixed.

If that is true, and i'm not saying it is or isn't, it would only apply to tickets for exceeding basic rule or speed limit by up to 3 mph. Most law enforcement aren't going to bother with someone going a few mph over unless they are being a safety risk due to various conditions such as traffic load, weather or construction zone, etc.
