My pulls were done with the factory air-box.
I see your in Indy im 4 hours from there who did your tuning I would be willing to drive 4 hours for a great tune

That would be Mike Norris Motorsports on the Northeast side of Indy. Mikenorrismotorsports.com

Mike's a great guy and made his mark in 'vette circles. He knows the LSX motors inside and out. If you go to him, give him and call and leave a message, he'll call back, I promise. He's only a one man show and also spends time in Florida tuning LSX's down there as well.

When he's working your car, he doesn't let anything else get in the way or distract him. Total focus and his time, no matter how much, go to you. All total, I think we spent about 1.5 hours doing the pulls, trying different tunes, and just talking cars.

I hope I have this right, but his approach to tuning is very logical. First, he will play with the air/fuel ratios and do pulls until he's made as much power and torque as the motor will make (safely). Next, he will fatten up the fuel/air ratio slightly to ensure a margin of safety. Then he will start playing with timing and do pulls to maintain as much as can safely be had without the computer trying to pull timing from knock. He's done so many LSXs that he has a huge library and had my car dialed in pretty quick. He very quickly got to the point where we weren't seeing any more gains, then took the fuel and timing back into safer settings without loosing anything. I feel very good that I'm getting all that can be had, and still have a very good margin of safety.

Hope that helps!

Drone?

This is a little late, but I've needed to drive a bit and get an idea what's going on. I to drive 70 miles a day on state and interstate roads. I absolutely won't abide any drone. Been there, done that, got sick of the headaches. That said, I can live with this.... Its going to be better next week after cats are installed.

Previously, I was driving with my rear mufflers deleted. I had the drone right at 1800 to 1900 rpms. It was mild, but still resonated and made the AFM/DOD sound like crap.

Now comes the XSPower system and the drone is louder, but has moved to 1400 to 1600 rpms. Finally, get the car tuned and now the drone is quieter, in a very narrow part of the power band... right at 1500 rpms, 58 to 62 mph. Above and below its just not there. The overall sound has improved as well... I don't know how to describe it... its doesn't scream or rasp on deceleration at all. This is all without cats. Magnaflow hi-flo cats are being installed next week. Must be kind the planet and all.

Course, someone else said it... after a while this will change. The fiberglass will burn out of the mufflers, then watch out!

hope that helps

I am waiting to get some time using my new tuning software EFILive V2 before I install my system. I do not want to drive around before I can tune her. Plus it is so cold in my garage. I figure 20+ HP should be what I am looking for. The sound is what I really want.

For what its worth, we did a dyno run after the system install and the A/F and timing were all fine. The factory program works fine and no danger of a lean condition.

That said, we got another 12hp just by smoothing out some of the fuel trims and timings. 20+ HP after a tune is very achievable-- probably certain.

BTW, Jon has posted the before / after dyno results over in the XSPower vendor thread. Go have a look!

Still lovin' it. I developed some tapping of the right header against the lower frame rail, near the frame. Jon from Oversteering replace the header. What a great guy. I will be installing it this weekend, provided the weather cooperates.

I'm getting close to installing mine as well. I ordered it before I got my Camaro and I just want to have a few thousand miles under my belt before installing the system.

Just a friendly bit of advise. Some folks get rubbing of the steering shaft on the left header, and others (me) will develop an issue with the right header collector intermittently tapping against the frame.

my recommendations: bolt down both headers using the OEM gaskets-- they are slightly thinner than the kit. Now, find some heavy corrugated cardboard (the box the headers came in?), double up two pieces (roughly 1/4") and use this as a clearance/feeler gauge to ensure nothing will rub the headers. In those places where the cardboard cannot be easily inserted, mark with a Sharpie. Now pull the headers off and using a big deep-well socket, dimple those areas that need it. You don't need to dimple them deeply, just enough to get your cardboard clearance.

Unless you specifically know how to heat treat 321 stainless steel, I don't recommend using a torch or heating the metal before dimpling them. By heating them (beyond exhaust temps) you are realigning the molecular structure of the metal, creating either soft pliability or brittleness. Either condition would be bad, but for different reasons.
Enjoy!

i dont think installing the catback without the headders would be very easy. the exhaust does not match the factory conection points. and its not a slipfit where it attaches to the headers, it has a kind of ball and socket joint. it could be done but it would need some custom fab work which would probably make it as much as a catback that has factory conection points.

Test fitting my headers in the morning. I will test fit the whole system before I cut in the Magnaflow Cats I bought for it. I also plan to mod my rear valance for duel tips possibly.

That's what I did, Allen. Drove it for a couple of months before weather cooperated, then I cut in a pair of Magnaflow metallic cats. They went in real easy.
