Yeah, but that would be easily corrected with a bit of clear protective film and/or fairly regular waxings, would it not?

I don't know about the film. I used Armoral, which looked good but didn't prevent the deterioration. I never used wax; I thought I read somewhere not to wax vinyl. I don't think you'd want to use a cleaner/wax with abrasive particles it. Maybe today's stripes are made from a better grade of vinyl. I imagine the stripes will come with some instructions for care.
