This isn't the first time I've heard of it. It was at freezing this morning, but I idled just enough to get the tranny fluid circulating (because my car hates shifts when cold) but get going within about a minute and drive through the neighborhood slow while he gets up to N.O.T.

I believe it. I certainly don't hot-dog or even get close to WOT though.

Its funny when they put this out. What about us people who sit in bumper to bumper traffic. Am I to turn off my car in the middle of the freeway?

Or the infamous freight train stoppage.

I know here in IL alot of the train stops have sign that say "DO NOT TURN OFF ENGINE" if a train is present. Man some of those go for 20-30 min tops. I was in a suburb here and a cop told a car next to him to turn the car back on as he cant turn off his car while waiting for the train to go by.

Maybe it's just my way of thinking, but there's always opportunity for us to conserve resources when it comes to the environment. That doesn't make any of us 'environmentalists' or 'hippies' or whatever--it just means that maybe there's virtue in first asking, "do I need to let the car idle?" versus allowing it idle just because you can. I'm not an earth-saver by all means, but I try to help out where it's easy to do so.

If you can't do the 'environmentalist' schtick, then you can always go the 'cheap ass' route and not let the car idle a lot to save yourself gas money.
