I for one love leather as a "look at my fancy seats that are easy to wipe in case of spills and the coffee won't sip though" but, in reality after owning both a Solstice and a T/A with leather and living in a section of the country where the winter and summer are somewhat extremes, my vote goes for the cloth. My last vehicle was an STI (Please don't kill me ) Yes, I had one and the seats were not that great but the cloth material helped me by not having myself ejected through the window in Autocross. As a matter of fact, they both have pros and cons and we can all debate in this pointless argument but the real answer lies in all of you: what do you want? -Do you want some nice looking leather seats and put towels when it is near freezing or near 100 deg. hot summer temperatures? -Do you want to be able to just spray and wipe spills and powder coated sugar donuts with a baby wipe in just a matter of few swipes? -Do you want for them to last at least 20 yrs (mine lasted 10 yrs before they started cracking) with the use of after market leather products? -Do you want your car in 10 years not to smell like a used car that has cloth seats? I believe all of you have tried to buy a used car with cloth to only discover the wonderful aroma of semi urinal cake as a cover up mixed with stench. Yuk. If you answer yes to the above then, you can live with leather like I did and have them last long. The only reason I am going with cloth is because A. I do not want to put towels anymore and B. because I will use my car for Autocross and other track competitions and since leather doesn't offer the grip I need then there is no use to me anyways. Another point is to be disciplined on a cloth equipped car by not having drinks and children that will open-explode their snacks in the back seats and have runny melting candies get through the seat crevices. It is like everything in life...If you take good care of things... So, look again at what you really want and cheers because either way you cannot do a wrong choice in this upcoming fine GM vehicle. |

Well ultimately I'd prefer leather, but don't want to pay for the rest of the 2SS package just to get it. Ideally I'd love to just get leather and the BA sound system and leave it at that. Why can't GM just offer leather as its own package?!?!
Anyone know approx how much it would cost to have seats recovered?

Ok well Leather is worth more on re-sell. Both require maintenance. Scotch guard does not work like you think. Trust me I have it on the cloth in my outlook and y kids still manage to stain it! I did get the stains mostly out but if you look there is some shading still.
It really depends on how you use it and how well you take care of it for either. Real leather warms up fast and s not nearly as hot as Vynal in the summer. Use a shade and tint the windows. There is an answer for every situtation you just have to be willing to take the few seconds or minutes for the effort of taking care of what you own. ![]() I went 2SS/RS because I want everything all in this one car I plan to keep for a very long time. |

I have the same dilemma. The 6-speed 1SS is a fantastic bargain for a great looking performance car in the low 30's- I would just add the sound system option and the polished wheels- no stripes for me. I really prefer leather (happily married, so chicks ain't a factor), but the 2SS package is pure profit for the seller- nothing in the 2SS package is worth anything near the markup they want. You get more in the 2SS than the RS package (which IMO is another way overpriced option I can live without). Don't really care about guages, or heated seats.
The BEST thing about the Camaro to me is what you get for the price- I am looking for a daily driver without spending too much on a car that I know will be worth a fraction of what I pay when I am done with it. What can I say? I'm cheap!! I think I am going to wait till dealers have these cars around to look at and then look at different models and seats and then make up my mind. Deals will surely be better then! And I do not have to be the first guy in the neighborhood to have one of these, particularly at the cost premium dealers like to get out of selling a brand new model. Resale value shouldn't be a factor in anybody's decision- the price difference by then will be insignificant. Just don't paint it pink. |
