You also have to take into account for the altitude where these times are being run at.tracks at a lower elevation will run quicker times.

The guys at Car and Driver are actually very good but they won't do what they consider abuse to get the best times out of a car. The times they get are what you can expect the average driver to get. They explain their test procedures in this article:

![]() I'll repeat, Patrick Bedard was on on IndyCar team in the '80s, and drove in two Indy 500 races. That alone should tell you Patrick knows how to drive, and race. Csaba Cere has competed in many races, including fifteen 24 hour races. That alone should tell you that Csaba knows how to drive, and race. IN ADDITION, they drive performance cars for a living. Nonstop. They drive on race tracks, they drive on drag strips, they drive on skid pads, they drive through slaloms, and they drive in traffic. And all the time, they're trying to get as much as possible out of the cars. My original post was simply in response to a guy who said "LOL, the guys at Motor Trend and Car & Driver can't drive." My opinion is that they can drive, and I backed it up with a few arguments. If you want to provide arguments of why they can't drive, then by all means go for it. I'm all ears.

Heres a comparison.... My 95 Z 6spd with heads, cam, full exhaust, 4.10 gears, Hurst shifter and retuned ECM with drag radials went 12.30's at 114 mph at Etown Raceway in NJ. The 60 foots weren't great, maybe 1.80's(have to find the tickets). I forgot what that car weighed, but I was about 220. That car had around 350rwhp or so...do the math. I'm assuming I(ME) at that track will get a stock SS damn close if not into the 12's fairly easily.

Only 350rwhp? Don't forgot, we are talking about an LT1 here, not an LS1. Remember, they were rated at 300 at the crank stock. I also said about 350...could be higher, I never had it dynoed after all was done. Figure the new one will put at least 375 at the wheels.

so I bet john force is probably really good going in the turns right by your logic if they are good at one kind of racing/driving they are great at all aspects of racing. I wonder why dale jr doesnt do top fuel drags because he must be so great at it because he is good at nascar. |

Very soon real owners will have real Camaro's out on 1/8 and 1/4 tracks all over America. Then we'll know for sure what it's capabilities are.

Hopefully Camaro owners and magazines will get their hands on the SS before the temperatures start warming up (Late Spring and Summer). If the LS3 is anything like my LS2, it needs cool air to run its best. The GXP and 370z came out in the winter and were tested in cool air. That's one major reason for their good times. So we might have to wait until next fall to see the fastest times out of stock 2010 Camaro's. |
