Bought mine to be a DD, and I don't really see anything changing that.

I drive my SS daily 60 miles mostly city. Have no plan for $4.00 gas. Don't really care if it costs $6.00. Nothing i can do to control it but, i didn't buy the car for gas mileage and i didn't buy a car i can't easily afford. I will only say what i told a co-worker of mine who wants one but is scared of gas prices. I get gas 6 times per month at roughly $310 per month. If gas goes up $1.00 more over todays prices that is about $90 a month. I told him that if he couldn't afford to come up with $90 a month then he is living way to close to the financial edge and has no financial business owning this car. Clearly it's out of your price range if you can't afford $90 a month. Bear in mind his commute is less than half what mine is so what would his actual monthly cost be?? $40 or so. I find the vast majority of people who are ready to jump off a cliff over gas prices already have jumped off the cliff financially by buying yet one more thing they cannot afford in the first place.

Daily driver
Good news is that I've been long on oil in the market for quite a while and have made enough to more than cover gas price increases. I'm retired and mess in the market a lot. I always try to anticipate incrreases in things that affect me personally and try to find a way to cover to cover potential price increases. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't.

I have been daily driving my LS1 since I was 17 and if I can afford to pay off my gas bill at 17 by working at a pool and Pizza Hut I'm sure there is a way people can afford this car

My SS is a daily driver and I will keep driving it, regardless of gas prices. I might try to conserve fuel by shifting earlier and manage the heavy foot better though. If it gets real bad, I might consider driving both my truck and Camaro on a regular basis.

Before I got my camaro back in nov 2009 I was driving a jeep which needed gas every 4 days. Now with gas prices climbing again my dad got me a new camry since i sold my camaro.(big mistake btw) He took the jeep from me and gave me the new car cuz he thinks I waste gas. With the camry I fill up every 7 days.

Let's just say ave commute one way is 15 miles. City driving is around 15 mpg so about $4 each way - $8 a day - $40 a week - about $180 a month.
New car = registration $, insurance $ etc., taxes + monthly payment. Let's say new car gets 30 mpg city/mixed. So $2 each way, $4/day, $20/wk, $90/month. Not a good financial decision. If gas hits $10/gal then camaro is $20/day, $100/wk, $500/month 30mpg car is $10/day $50/wk, $250/month. For most people I'd say wait until around the $10/gal point to think about getting a more "economical car" as a daily driver. However, if you can afford it and just want to string out the supply of dead dino oil - go for it!

My SS might become my DD if gas keeps going up - it gets better mpg than my SUV!

The Camaro gets better gas mileage than my truck. So I use the truck for towing boat and rainy days. Otherwise, I'm driving the Camaro. Plus it's a whole lot more fun than my truck.

I'll be okay until gas hits $7.50/gal, at that point I'll have to bring lunch to work, cut back on mods and limit joy riding :(

Since i am away from my home right now (houston), the 'maro is the only car i have with me so Ive got no other choice.
Thankfully i live just off post so its a 10 minute drive on workdays. 93 octane right now for me is about 3.65

![]() When we bought the SS, we knew gas prices where going to go up sooner or later. If you drive resonable the SS gets ok gas milage. I still call our SS the Anti-Prius...or Anti-SmartCar...or better yet the Anti-Granola Eaten or Tree Huggen or Polically Correct...Compact car Terrorizer
