I was hoping it would go down in the next few weeks but no luck I guess. I live just outside tampa, florida and driving to southern Indiana in a few weeks. Gas is a killer when traveling like that :( plus we are taking our charger equipped w/ a HEMI, even worse........

This is all true BUT!!!

1. Europeans dont drive big SUV's and trucks they drive cars that are about the size of golf carts and get 40-50mpg.

2. European mass transit is light years above ours and more people use it, thus limiting the need for a vehicle or even all together

3. Europeans are more urbanized than americans and do not need to travel to work as far as we do.

4. They do not feel the need to live in an house they cant afford that is 30mins from work.

5. They don't have the toys that a lot of us can not afford either.

Not knocking them or us, theyre gas cost more but their dollar(euro) is higher as well. And the amount that the average consumer consumes I bet is way lower than most americans

If cost of gas is an issue drive a 4 cylinder every day and drive your Camaro on the weekend. Makes no sense whatsoever to drive a v8 everyday and cry about it. If a v8 is a must and the only way to save your dignity then suck it up and pay up!

Besides all thats been mentioned here, we have more oil then we know what to do with. But its also the refining capacity, were peaked out and the world uses 100% of what is refined. Take out Libya's 2%, although the Suadi's have made up for it, and add in the fear and speculators about the whole middle east and there you go.I hear the it will be coming down this summer(?)

When you put $50 into a fill up, it's hard not to get at least a little frustrated or think about other thongs you'd rather spend the money on. If you don't drive very far to work it doesn't hit you so hard, but it adds up when you drive 220+ miles a week like I do. I almost always check the prices at my usual fill up place every day on the way to work. It's kind of like trying to not look at a wreck when you're driving by one.

May get flamed for this but...

A little advice. Several months ago, when I took delivery of my RS/SS 2011 Camaro, I went long on oil. That is, I made investments that assumed an increase in oil prices. I am retired, and while not rich, am comfortable, and have two basic investments packages. The first is our "offcial" retirement, investments, and I have a financial planner who does most of this work. The second is my "play money" account. What I do with the play money is invest in things related to our liefestyle, attitude, wants and wishes. So buying a car with only modest fuel effiiciency and doing my best to project future oil prices, I went long. I am in and out on a weekly, if not almost daily basis, and so far have more than covered gas price increases. The point I am trying to make, is that if you have something you really care about, and have the means, look at ways to cover future costs thru investing in something related to your passion. It has worked well for several years for me.
