Here is the bottom line, anyone on this site who posts is bragging. You wouldn't post your pictures, videos, or your modifications if you weren't. Saying you're 16 is just another form of this site's narcissism. However, this type of bragging isn't allowed for some reason. I agree it shouldn't be said that you are 16 and have an SS, but it also shouldn't be said, "Wow, sounds good for a V6" or "Why didn't you get a stick?" Everyone here has a sense of pride about their Camaro, he just took his pride in the form of being 16 with a Camaro. I hope everyone reads this and thinks about how they "brag" on C5.

I don't have a problem with the threads until someone comes with the "hey I'm 16 look what I have" attitude and lays it off on people, whether it be all at once or ever so lightly...I've seen first hand what a large group of people with that mentality can do to the effectiveness of a forum and I'm not about to let this place be flooded with kids who think it's ok to come in here and be that way..it's all about the tone...so before anyone calls anyone a flaming punk, it's appropriate to step back and understand the context of whats going on and the portrayed attitudes being shown in the intial I'm new statement...

I agree with Steve's original post. Thanks for saying that.

However, I watched this morning's "match" between young newcomer and the snarks. The young newcomer did come in proclaiming his age and that he bought his own Camaro and that he didn't want anyone to hate him for it. It wasn't really necessary to tell people how they should feel about you. It's like coming in with a chip on your shoulder. That is not conducive to starting a friendly discussion. BUT, I don't think he meant it that way at all. I think he was just trying to say hi and let folks know he is a young Camaro owner.

Then some of the locals picked up on that as a challenge to their manliness and they weren't going to be told how they're supposed to feel about this new persons age. THAT is immature and not conducive to a friendly discussion. You could have just said "welcome to Camaro 5." It would have reflected a lot better on the whole site.

I try not to respond to the snarky comments. There really aren't a lot of those here, but it only takes one or two to turn a thread sour. I prefer to take the attitude that perhaps they were just trying to be funny. It makes those comments a lot easier to take.

As far as classism... I am a woman participating on a forum dominated by guys. (I don't mind that one bit!) But, I have witnesses a lot of women bashing. Sometimes I was the target and sometimes it was women in general such as "women are so stupid..." comments. Whatever. I try to stay out of those discussions. They are usually juvenile (and not because of the 16 year olds involved).

We are a group of people who are all Camaro enthusiasts. We are all individuals with different backgrounds. We should treat each other with respect and come here to learn and have fun. Talk to people like you are face-to-face with them as a friend an not hiding behind some anonymous username. Life is too short to be mean or mad all the time.

Ok, nuff said. Sorry for the long post.

You may want to read this thread:

May clear your angry "tone" a little bit.
