starky-i guess it is worth discussing, because you have posted here 3 times. i see people that get the v6 as someone who just wants an a-b car, while people getting the v8 are more passionate. this isnt always true, and i personally wouldnt get a camaro if i could only get a v6.

I think the song goes something like this.. You don't always get what you want, but if you try real hard you get what you need. I would probably need and want a V8, but I could see people needing the V6. The 5th Gen would be the only Camaro I could see myself buying with a V6. I actually like the front end styling better. If they offered the Brembos and same suspension package as a V8, that would be even better.

I agree, the styling of the front end is better on the 6 and holds truer to the original design of the concept. The mailslot on the v8 screams poser (think mustang hood). I would choose for it not be there then to be fake. As for the reasons for the v6. Its technology is light years ahead of the v8 models. There is an article up now on how advance it is. I think you will see that it is the fresher engine and has a ton of potential.

Get what you need, a V6- -V8 for any other purpose than racing is extension of something that's missing. (Lack of friends, lack of attention, lack of women, lack of_____fill in the blank____etc). V8 is for people making bad financial decisions. LMAO - V8's are for dicks basically the opposite of what StarkyLuv said.

Wow so now I guess I know why GM has made V8's and performance cars. I thought I bought V8's and performance because I have worked hard in life and made wise financial decisions to be able to buy what I want. Here I was thinking I like the torque and the rumble of the engine and the Heritage of SS machines. I see now that my whole garage is a sign of insecurity and lack of something.....NOT!!! This thread is amazing. Go buy a Smart Cars or something, just because people like what they like it is not a sign of a lack in their life.

....and per some post if i ordered a V6 means I'm not passionate about the car like Ive seen in some of these post. Lots of reason to buy either but for some post to say that on SS buyers are passionate and V6 is for wimps, like to see that stock SS from 10 years ago go against the new v6. Some of the SS buyers sound snobby. Makes me not want one even more.
It's good reason to buy either but if you aren't a return SS,Z28, I-roc buyer the V6 is for you. F* a Smart Car. GM for life. lol

Finally! There's too much reverse snobbery in this thread. I have no problem with a V6,i've had 2,but i've done my time, and i've wanted always wanted a V8 pony car,now that i've got one,i'm no going back to a base model. Life is about minimizing your regrets, and i bet everyone on this board would not regret 426HP.If you want a V6,perfect,i have all the respect in the world for you,a V6 Camaro will be a great car for you. BUT,if you have doubt about not going for that V8,a V6 will be a HUGE mistake. If you can't afford it,don't settle, wait and buy used. You will not be sorry. There was a review of a '93 V6 Camaro along time ago in Road and Track. It basically said it was a fine car and 160HP was more than enough for every-day use, then it went on to recommend the V8 because life is about making memories, and a just adequate car that's "just fine for me" just wouldn't make an impression. |

Also,it's not even about V6 or V8,it's basically what model i am going to be excited about driving day in and day out. A Ecoboost Mustang would also fill that bill. A Grand National,a BMW 3-series....it's about making the commute to my boring-ass job a experience.

If you are worried about common sense you should be buying an accord or something...lol, this is not that kind of car. As to a V8 or not ? That's up to you. I agree that the resale value of the V8 will always be better. The kick in the butt you will get from the power of the extra horses will be something you will always remember. Remember the old saying " there's no substitute for cubic inches!"

If money is no object, why not go with the top of the line version of this Camaro, or any other car as far as that goes?!
There are three other things I'd like to add. First, don't underestimate the value of the shorter stopping distances of the Brembo's! They really can make the difference between a fender bender (or worse), and a complete miss. Second, I've had a handful of encounters where I was able to completely avoid a collision, because I was able to nail a responsive, powerful loud pedal. Torque doesn't just win races, it can at times save life and limb as well. Third, great suspension and handling isn't just for drivng enjoyment, it offers a very real safety benefit too. The first time you need to use it to get yourself out of trouble, you'll know what I mean!!!

Wow. My intent was NOT to start a psychological V6-V8 argument.
![]() Let's try another tact. Since few of us have driven a cammy, I've been looking at reviews of CTS' with the 3.6DI. A common complaint is that 304 isn't quite enough to push its 3874lbs (3.6 auto): Edmunds:"but thanks to that hefty mass, acceleration isn't quite as quick as other 300-plus-hp cars in its class." CarConnection: "Class-topping weight impedes performance." TheTruthaboutCars: "The CTS struggles to build steam under its 3900 lbs. frame." Since the cammy is @3750 (LT auto), would 150 less pounds make that much of a difference? I'm not trolling here - I'm really wrestling with the V6-8 question.
