One guess would be gas mileage
On the View lineup on Chevy.com, on the Fuel Economy tabe, the Impala has worse mileage listing than the Vette.

But it is merely an option, why not just leave it?

Probably economies of scale when producing a "few" of them, plus the CAFE impact...

In the case of cars built for our West Coast they are all loaded at Oshawa on to rail. The rail car # is recorded and can be tracked as it progresses west. Shuffles in Winnipeg, again in Regina Sask. Again in Calgary. Then goes right past me non stop on it's way to Vancouver.

There it is moved to a truck and ALL the dealerships in BC (the size of California) will receive it on a multi carrier truck. My Corvette took 11 days from the time it entered Canada. The dealer could locate the rail car each day.

I had one of the first Solstice's when they first came out. It was delivered by rail here in Phoenix. I had to wait 4 days for the guys down at the rail yard to unload my car and get it pulled into the loading area for the Dealership to pickup. I couldnt believe it, very frustrating at the time.

You can see the car carriers (railroad) in one of the Oshawa photos.

Detroit has a separate rail tunnel under the Detroit River that most people do not know about. With that in mind I'd guess that rail shipping from the factory via Detroit will be a good possibility for any distribution points that get there vehicles from the Southeast Michigan area.

So are they being built on order date alone or by dealer size and order date

my dealer just emailed me this "Your car order was updated last Friday but it didn't change the 3300 status. I am seeing an expected delivery date on one of the order inquiry pages of 04/06/09 to 04/26/09. It still doesn't show a build date though. I am guessing it will be built next week"

By dealer "size" (allocation) and whatever order your dealer puts them in. Order date has nothing to do with it as far as GM is concerned.

Ahhh.....Impala SS , my 04 SS was my only way to get over the tragic loss of my Camaro SS ! Somehow it didn't fill thr void......but I am sure the SS2 RS/Auto I ordered Sunday will make me feel much better !
