As Slowhawk has mentioned, the sintered bronze blockers are little tight sitting on the cone of the 2nd gear. When the transmission warms up, the clearance loosens up enough so the 2nd gear doesn't grind. The carbon blockers are little thinner sitting on the 2nd gear cone and also the friction material is less "grabby" compared to the bronze blocking rings. I think that is what's causing the 2nd gear grind.

Shouldn't have to update something that should work flawless from the factory especially when the car isn't modified. Even with multiple attempts they can't fix it. I will not pay for something that should work anyways.

Well, we got the new transmission that Rick built installed along with the LS9 clutch. The transmission had the infamous 2nd gear grind but the 3rd was missed few times and that gear grinded also. I can say that the trans is much tighter and smoother when shifting through the gears and the grinding has gone away totally. I didn't have a chance to shift near the redline since the clutch needs to be broken in so I'll have Rick post a follow up when I do.

Stay on topic please, this is not a warranty thread... this is a heavily modded camaro build.

Rick and Tim,
Nice work. pretty cool that you guys figured this out.

I was actually talking to him about aftermarket options to fix the ay6 but thanks for chiming in and putting me in my place lol.

And as far as the OP pointed out this was a build for people having the 1-2 gear grind on the tremec and for Tim at T&T performance.

I'd be very interested in the output shaft and bearing install. Is it something a backyard mechanic can do? Does the whole tranny have to come out?

You have to disassemble the complete transmission (like the pictures I posted) to replace the main shaft. That is not something I would recommend for a backyard mechanic. Yes, the transmission has to be removed from the vehicle.

Can you provide a link for the parts, if we want to upgrade the output shaft and bearing and the gear blockers too, i will need a clutch at some point and that will be the time to do this mod.

Rick, just like with the Corvette folks, awsome work. I'm sure a lot of people, along with myself, would like to know if you would be able to provide the upgraded parts in a kit form or maybe a core/exchange type deal for complete transmissions?

Fair point. Rick also made it clear there is no one working on a fix for the AY6. This thread is a tremec build. once you got your answer from Rick that should have been the end of it. Not trying to put you in your place.

And FWIW This post from you is what confused me as to whether you wanted an after market fix or a warranty fix.

Hope that helps.

I will have some package prices (carbon blockers and bronze fork pads) available through T&T Performance. The prices should be set up in few days.

As for the transmission upgrades/core exchange, that would be available through T&T Performance also.

Do the service manuals cover it? Haven't gotten mine yet since the 2011's just came out a week or so ago.
