I dunno, I guess a lot of the modifications I see seem pointless to me when you take away the, "I think they look cool," reasoning.
I agree, if your car can't go fast enough to need the extra downforce, then why bother? At least the stock spoiler on the Camaro's actually helps aerodynamics.

Well, I wouldn't do the red halos simply because it's illegal. But that's completely different.

The thing about the term "rice" is there's a LOT of grey area that just depends on tastes.

There are some things that are just so outrageous that the only person that doesn't consider them rice is the person who did it. Think bookshelf spoiler as an example.

Then there's other things that have a solid mixed opinion about. An example of this would be, bagging a truck so the frame rails hit the ground, or putting 12" rims and hydraulics on an old Impala. I think it looks like complete **** and I can imagine there's a lot of people that feel the same, however, there is a solid following for that kind of style, enough so that you can't just lump that in with the term "rice." The difference here is, we can all at least appreciate that someone spent a lot of time working on those kinds of mods. Anyone can drill holes in a trunk lid and bolt on something that looks like it should be shaving off the Jolly Green Giant's 5 o'clock shadow.
