I've got experience surfing with a waterproof camera and it can be quite the hassle. A key that you don't even know is there is MUCH easier.

I just hope we can get some clarification from someone "in the know". But I guess we'll find out soon enough when the first cars hit dealerships.

I thought the same thing for a moment, then realized, if you can protect phone, you can protect a key. I'd rather take the key with me than the phone.

I don't surf but I love the beach. The last thing I'll do when I'm relaxing or doing something like that is answer my phone. I just leave it in the car. The messages will be there when I get back.

The onstar unlock thing might be cool though. If the key isn't like on my wifes car. You CAN'T lock the door if a key is in it. Not even the trunk.

im pretty sure that you only get the one switch blade key. the other should be a regular key.

Well not that it means much but my current GM vehicle gave me two key+fobs. Being that this keyfob is integrated, there's no clear answer as to what we'll see.

some1 replied this earlier, if you just get a regular cheap key cut anywhere even good ol walmart it will unlock the door but won't start the car. So lock your fob in the car take your cheap cut key out with you, and if you lose it then call on star to use the unlock feature.

You have to hide it like they do the idol on survivor. It takes someone so long to find it by the time you are done surfing it should still be there.

The key fob looks to be the same as the one on my "gasp" VW. Its not cut like a regular key you would have to take it to a dealer or a key shop that can do such keys. Id have to say yes UCF, you will most likely get 2 key fobs and a valet key. At least thats the way most cars come now if they have a fob.

Now that a whole slew of people have their cars, any update on this? Anyone tried to or been able to obtain a non-electronic key? Are they coming with a valet key of sorts? Just the electronic switchblade? How much does it cost to get the 'dumb' key?

Since its a switchblade key there has to be a regular key you can get from the dealer because the Key Fob itself is not used to start the car. Plus there is a key insert on the door handle so just ask your dealer for the key and they should provide the key. The cost if any should not be a large amount anyway ... Goodluck to you

Ask a dealer parts department to see if they have a part number for it in the system.

A keypad would be cool too. Maybe install a Ford keypad lol.
