Well, I happen to like this weight. It CUTS it with me. I'm ALL IN on this model. Of course I'm in it for the ride comfort as much as the SHOWING OFF. LOL The ZL1 is a Masterpiece. And tell me where you can get a Masterpiece like this for this kind of money?

All those who brought this to us, from dream to concept to our door.... WOW!

YOU DID IT! Thanks!!

You can argue over stock vs stock all day long but once you start modding, all bets are off. The good thing is both cars are a great canvas for owners to play with.

But if you can afford these cars and have the desire to own one. This is indeed a cause for celebration for many of us.

I remember when I got my 03 Cobra all the Camaro guys were complaining that "Ford had to use a supercharger" blah blah blah... Guess if you can't beat them, join them...

mmmmmmmmmm............how old are you?

Not sure, but methinks you need to go back to -- oh -- say --the EARLY

And let's not forget the "Mustang II" --

It's not quite as simple as "Ford created this segment" and "Chevy has been playing copycat for the entire time" -

As I said on two other threads - this is a great time for enthusiasts - and competition is good for everyone.

And here are my thoughts

As an Irish-European (as opposed to an Irish-American) drag racing always meant little to me. It was something Americans with poor handling powerful cars did.

In Ireland we love Rally Driving and Road Track Racing. Thus I always drove Mazdas and Subarus, as I wanted excellent cornering, that was until........................................I saw and read about the 5th Gen Camaro. Here was an American muscle car pulling in suspension design teams from Australia and being designed to corner well. I was hooked. I was going to get one. Sure I could have gotten an equally handling used BMW, Merc, Audi or Porsche for similar money, and I did test drive some, but besides not wanting to appear pretentious (a nice way of saying "like a douche-bag") I also realized I couldn't convenientally or reasonably get them serviced. Thus in late 2009 I put my name on the list for a 2SS.

I LOVE IT!

I have showed it at car shows and taken it to track days and driven it around corners until the brake fluid boiled.
I have even driven it on a drag-strip ( Shhh don't tell my friends in Ireland)

Now I see the ZL1 coming and what is it being designed for .........the track.
Oh yeah! Sign me up.

GT500? Never even considered it. Never have gotten the feeling that it was being designed for the track always seemed designed for the strip. What about the Boss. Sure I Looked at it but only the Monterey looked like it would outperform the Camaro and it was far from a daily driver.

I will be happily driving a 580+HP ZL1 around corners long before a 2013 GT500 spins it wheels at a drag-strip

I've thought about it a bit now, and I like the response from Mr O and the challenge.

I agree with 'father that the oval deserves to win - in some areas and at some times, but not on the day of our biggest announcement.

Mind you, I'm not saying their '13 model is a winner, just that FoMoCo pulled a low blow and deserved to be answered.

I like MMA rather than boxing, but there are still rules. If you kick me in the 'nads, you dang well better be able to finish me off or there will be a price to pay.

That is my opinion on the matter.

I look forward to ring times from the F-word people - with stock tires, btw.

I think you'll probably be looking for a long time, because with a solid rear axle and lack of magnetic ride control, I don't think that the GT500 will be able to run a Nurburgring lap time that Ford would want to reveal.

Well we (GM) should flippin' buy one, take it over, put a very well respected non-GM driver in it and tell him to show us what their best is. Record everything, document everything, and then dare F-word to do better.

They still couldn't, and that's why they don't want to compete with ZL1 on a road with curves & hills.

Edit: I know we're talking about next year's model and we can't buy it yet. I will indeed have to wait for that comparison.

If you can afford a Z11... I am absolutely sure you can afford a used 2010 or even 2011 Nissan GTR... It's what.. maybe 10-15,000 more?? Then you can rape everything on the street AND track. PROBLEM SOLVED.

Now this iconic war between Ford and Chevy has gone on for such a long time and will continue to do so. Each side has their own fan boys that will defend their brand to the death, and that's just how it's going to be. I am all to used to this, the college I attend has a car club, and just about everyone in the club is a Ford person. I'll post things on our forum about GM/Chevy related things (usually Camaro) and I get so MUCH flak from them saying things as to how ugly it is, how over weight it is, blah blah blah. Most of the main posters on our forum have already graduated but still lurk the forums. However I have never seen a larger group of complete @$$holes and if you don't believe me, then PM and I'll give you a link. The point I'm making is you can really turn someone off when there is constant subjective bashing going on.

I think we all need to take a step back and try to be as objective as possible. The ZL1 is an amazing car and the best Camaro ever produced, with some amazing technology and you cannot argue with its impressive times around the Nurembergring. However, I'd like to also commend Ford with what they have done. One member said on here that there is no company that does more with less than Ford, and I agree. The 5.0 is damn impressive, the Boss is absolutely amazing and I have no doubt in my mind that the 2013 GT500 will be jaw dropping. However, we need to keep in mind the reason why these numbers keep getting better and better is because of the competition. I know this has been said countless times on here before, but I really believe it to be the truth.

Whether you're a Chevrolet, Ford or Dodge fan you have to be pretty impressed with what is going on in the industry. I know I sure am proud of the American Auto Industry right now! :flag2:

Anyways just my $0.02, take it for what it's worth.
OP: agreed we live in a great muscle car time and thanks to the competition..but as you also said ..the FERD guys are are the biggest A-Holes you could meet. I dont consider revving your gay 5.0 engine at me competition or playing door handle roulette on the street as competition either......they all act like they have something to prove and want to make sure YOU KNOW IT.
Partly why I bought a camaro is the fact that when comparing cars I asked around and all the ford guys could offer was the same non-answer.."oh its the fastest car out there".. proof???? none.
Whereas with the camaro owners had intelligent answers regarding practicality/ affordability/ power to weight ratio and over all wether they were actually pleased with the car...and if not with what part.
They seemed to be a much friendlier lot of people as well!
+1 to Camaro owners over-all...proud to be one!!!
