Hopefully they will use their freaking heads and put the camaro in it's own class. And not look at it in the way that it is completely useless to a family of five. It really ticks me off when they do that.

Even though the Camaro isn't for everybody, it will make people consider cars from GM when they may have just gone with a Toyota. It's not about the number of Camaros sold (although that will certainly help) it's about the image that the average American has of GM.
I know of a few GM people who whole heartedly agree with you. I however do not believe that a company should have more than one "trophy" car. When it comes to Chevrolet, that one car is the Corvette. Every other Chevy must justify it's existence by selling enough units per year to make a profit for the general.

Camaro saving GM? Not a chance. It's not a car that the masses will flock to. Rather, it's a bit of a niche car and as such will sell 200K units at the most (in current market conditions). If someone came to me and gave me a business case stating that the Camaro is responsible for selling the Impala, hence it's continued existence when only selling 50K units, I'd say to them "you're in the wrong business".

Identify the target market, identify the competition, build the best product for that market and sell it at a competitive price. Your goal should be to own your market segment - nothing less. If you don't think you will be able to and need some other "spin" job to support your product's business case, then you should move on.

If you really want to know what will save GM, just look at which vehicles they sell 1 million or more units of. Pick-up truck anyone?....

I would rather build a 4 or 2 door family sedan then the camaro. I like the camaro, but with a family car we would be running 2 to 3 shifts and selling more of them. Its all about job security now.

I think you will be fine building Camaro for now. In order to build the 4 to 2 door sedan to compete with Camry and Accord, you have to make it as affordable. We know Malibu beats those two but, families don't have the money right now for a new car as it is. You have to build what is in demand in the current market. Believe it or not, Camaro is in demand.

Another observation, They can't keep the Challengers on the lot here at a local dealer that is not in a very lively or afluent part of Florida. So there is a demand for Pony cars right now. Sure, Camaro sales alone won't save GM, but the Family guy will show up to showroom to see it and then see Malibu or G8 right? You will be fine my friend.

So you think there is a greater demand for the Camaro then the Impala (they are both made at the same plant btw)?

I don't think it will alone, but with the help of a couple others like the Volt and the CTS-V I think they'll start to pick back up. If the Volt can snatch away the Prius wackjobs then I'd say it's done its job....

of course with a v8 in the line up, GM never got the picture when people made v8 s10s in the mid 80s, finally put a v8 in the colorado, just pissed all the s10 guys off

4 cyl, 6 cyl, and 8 cyl, in all cab/box configs (well no 4 cyl in 4 door p/u and suv) and 6 cyl and 8 cyl in all 4wd

too bad the linden plant is gone now

I say they should offer a 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty standard on all chevrolets.
It's not rocket science guys, I cannot believe how much some of these high paid CEO's are getting paid to make dumb decisions. And please don't flame me with, a warranty like that would break the company,They're already broke and if they can't build a car as well as the Koreans then, well maybe they just no longer can compete. Before anyone flames me I have 3 Chevrolets in my drivway. "08Cobalt, "02 Cavalier, '97 Z28 Camaro and have owned GM since 1974. One car will not save GM or Chevrolet, at least not the Camaro, however it may get a lot of people looking again.

This would be absolutely amazing. Dodge has a lifetime powertrain warranty, why can't GM have something to compete against that?

So. in the light of one of the last topics. Camaro is gonna be a massive impact in the recovery of GM and their future. So, IS it still possible? Can Camaro save GM?

Yes, and also help jump start the economy getting suppliers and after market manufactures back in buisness...

The way forward has to start somewhere why not the Camaro?

Financially? Not a chance. Public perception? Huge!
