They're probably CTF cars for display purposes.

I've been over "losing it" for a few days now- hence naming the car Waldo. Got a response from Fbodfather today that there is no "reveal hold", they had to replace (actually put in) door panels that weren't installed due to issues, reflash BCMs because of a window index issue, etc, etc. As the "problems" are fixed, the cars will ship. All I can ask for. Now I wait- but I wait knowing what's happening. That makes ALL the difference.

Give him a break. He drives a 2010 Camarao. He probably doesn't know much about the Camaro.

This info. would answer tons of questions in other threads like the ones wanting to know "what's the hold-up" and "why are the hoods up" subjects.

This is excellent info. and thanks for posting it here.

Here was my question:

I hope you had a wonderful Easter; I did too.

Now, being that today marks 4 weeks since my car was produced, I humbly ask the question of how not having it yet fits into the game plan of "having your cars as soon as possible"?

I'm finished with being "upset"; life's too short. I have now named my car Waldo.

If indeed, as many suggest, these cars are being held until the May 6th reveal, please just tell us that. I would understand that it is something completely out of your control and in no way, shape, or form, hold it against you. The current silence from GM is deafening. The lack of ability of Chevy Customer Service to give ANY relevant information is disheartening at best. Guess, I just expected a little more and I'm disappointed because of it.

Respectfully submitted.

Here is the response:

OK --

let's do some math, shall we?

Let's assume we've built 5,000 cars -- perhaps more. Let's assume that the average 'cost' is in the low 20s--- let's say, $25,000 for the sake of setting an easy figure. (in reality, it's higher...)

look at what kind of cash we have tied up.......

Now -- I use that as an example to say that EVEN if we DIDN'T care about our customers --and we DO care about you...... that's some serious change to have tied up!!!!! Until we ship 'em and invoice 'em -- we own 'em and we need cash right now!

We want you behind the steering wheel of your Camaro as soon as possible.......BUT......we are not going to deliver them to you until details are right.

See -- (and I've discussed this before....) when you start building a new Car (or truck) -- (and esp. so in a new plant...) there are going to be issues with suppliers and glitches that are appropriate to fix before we ship 'em.

Every auto manufacturer faces the same issues.......

Example: The Camaro has 'indexing' windows........meaning that when you open the driver or passenger door, the window opens a tiny bit -- so that you can close the door and get a good seal - then the window 'indexes' back into place.

Well.........we found that some CTF cars have errors with the indexing -- which means we have to re-flash the BCM --

......then there was the issue of Ambient Lighting -- we built some cars without the trim panels - simply because we awaited correct panels.

The question: Do you want us to ship the cars with issues or do you want us to go over each car to ensure that it's right and to put the correctly finished parts and components in the car?

(......and yes, someone said 'well, I'd rather you ship it - at least I could drive it before I have to take it back for service.....and that is simply not an option.....)

Again -- I remind you in a friendly way that there ARE downsides to sharing so much information about these cars early on.......

I know how hard it is to remain patient -- it's like when you're a child and Christmas morning just won't get here fast enough......and heck, I understand that you can hardly wait to get a car that stops traffic in Manhattan's Times Square!!

I do thank all of you for your patience -- and I hope that when you get your new Camaros, you'll find that it was well worth the wait.

Follow-up by me

First, thank you for the response. Some clarity is a wonderful thing. In answer to your main question, no, I do not want my car until it is right so in that respect, you and the GM team have chosen the right course.

All that is being asked for here and on the other boards really is/was to settle speculation caused by the "delays". I can show you repeated posts where I stated my opinion that the cars weren't being held for the reveal but in the lack of any supporting evidence otherwise, and wild rumors to that extent, I asked the question here to put it to rest.

"We were waiting for some replacement door panels"- GREAT ANSWER
"We had to reflash some/all BCMs because of an indexing issue"- GREAT ANSWER
"We need the money (5000+ x 25k)"- FUNNY (and obvious ) ANSWER

As far as the kid waiting for Christmas morning? You betcha.

The only lingering question I have is will the cars ship as they are "fixed" or when all have been fixed?

And while there may be downsides to sharing so much information early on, there were 13,000 upsides directly because of it, before the first of those 13,000 reasons rolled off the line.

All that being said, I have no doubt it will be worth the wait. Doesn't mean I have to like the wait.

Trent

Follow up response:

We are shipping them as fast as we can--- but it does take time to do reflashes and such.

"Thor" (my CTF Camaro SS/RS -- named by enthusiasts in Florida...) was in to have his ice and snow tires removed today -- and I had a couple of reflashes done -- one was for a phantom "passenger seat belt not fastened" chime and light -- (...or perhaps the ghost of Harley Earl was riding with me....)

KEEP ONE THING IN MIND:

Early production totals are about 200 cars a day.

There are over 14,000 'pre-orders' --

.........which means that not everyone can have their car 'first' ---

************************************************** *****************

So, yes, I'm content to wait because it WILL be worth waiting for.

So, what's a BCM? Is it any different from an ECM or PCM?

Not to hijack the thread..but to add some positive reinforcement..

My salesman called this morning. He told me my car has been release from QC and is now on a truck (not a rail) to Michigan. He was not certain how long it would remain there, but assured me it would arrive at the dealership in less than a week!!!
