It's just terminology to shorten mod lists. Saying h/c doesn't tell you how much power an ls1 is making, but it gives you a basic idea. Same principle. In the subaru community if someone says stage X you know what you're dealing with. There are so many subarus with the same basic mods, it's easier than saying, "downpipe, catback, intake, tune" over and over again.

Thats funny, you say it like its only a compact car thing. There are like three different companies that have stages for your camaro engines. Heads are one of them.

i believe you came to that conclusion with a pre determined notion that "stages" are a compact car, or "ricer" thing.

The "stage" thing means different things on different cars. If someone told me they had a stage 2 Camaro SS, I'd have to ask them what that includes. There's no common language for stages on a 5th gen.
Some companies sell stage 1,2 etc cams. Some dealerships sell special edition stage 1,2, etc Camaros. But there's no common meaning behind the stages that I'm aware of. But with a WRX/STi, the stage setups are pretty much the same. A "stage 2" is usually a full exhaust (with downpipe) and tuning. A "stage 4" usually indicates a turbo upgrade and supporting mods. So within the Subaru community, if someone mentiones a stage 1, 2, 3, 4, you usually know what mods their running. |
