Mis-matched paint - at least one of which was a CTF and the other was a questionable picture. I firmly believe that no car will make it out of the factory with mis-matched paint.

funny-fitting hockey stripes - Link? I must've missed this one.

battery - the batter was fine. It was the wire that went bad. For whatever reason it rubbed up against the alternator and melted the shielding.

weights - just to solve a small noise problem, nothing really mechanical. Also going to be fixed later.

indexing - simple reflash.

failed inspection - this kind of stuff happens. It's the reason they do inspections. No manufacturing process ever has 100% acceptance.

That doesn't sound exactly right to me.. but hey im a suspicious of everyone....

If it was on hold for quality control before..... That means they went over this car with a fine tooth comb and fixed whatever was wrong with it before it shipped. Maybe I am misunderstanding but it would have never shipped if it had so many things wrong with it.

it would be very odd that 1 in 2100 cars would be so bad-off that it needs to be replaced....

yes, this thread could get interesting....

At least it sounds like they are trying to make sure a quality product goes to market. Still sucks to have to wait longer, but it will be a lot less headache than having a lemon of a car.

(it wasnt yellow was it?!)

I don't know details of what was wrong with it. All I know is, it is no longer "sale-able", which is how they worded it.

So...

.0005% is a bad percentage of cars that fail quality control?

Assuming they were made on a cookie-cutter production line... and this one had enough problems to scrap it (~$30,000 loss)....

What does that say about the cars made before and after it on the same line?

If this is actually the case (that it is "scrapped"), I expect that there will be much more of these.... you dont just find one with $30,000 worth of problems, and the rest are perfect.

Maybe the dealer made up this story so they could sell the car on Ebay or over MSRP? If you already have the VIN, maybe you could check up on the dealer and see if the VIN suddenly gets titled. Something isn't right here. I would think if they had to scrap a car because of too many problems they would do it in a way that was transparent to the end customer.

It obviously is something they could not fix..Probably7 a sheet metal issue that caused way too much excessive rattling that no amount of weights could fix..

I tend to be suspicious of things that don't quite make sense to me too. The only time I've heard of a car being built and not delivered to the dealer is when it is so badly damaged in transit that they do not want to repair it either for cost reasons, or severity of damage. Depending upon the contract with their transporter, the transporter's insurance company buys the car, fixes it and re-sells it as a "special demonstrator", and then settles with the manufacturer.

A Q.A. failure of .0005% sounds very low to me too. A much higher percentage of cars are subject to some kind of damage in transit requiring repair. Almost all are repaired prior to delivery to the dealer because the damage is minimal - scratches, minor dents, etc.

This is not to say that you're dealer's story is not correct - I've just never heard of that before.

The story is coming from GM not the dealer.
