The way I look at it...why take a chance! Do it before you install and MAYBE it will keep the headache away from doing the install all over again.

As was stated by others here, the first batch had issues. Mainly moisture in housing issues. The problem u have is the same issue I had with the first set I had back when they were initially released. It was due to moisture after I went to a car wash. The seller I got mine from took them back and got me the new batch that fixed all the issues and I have not had a problem since...knock on wood, lol!

I got mine the beginning of May and had leaking issue about 2 inches of water in one of my tail lamps and electronics issue with that lamp. They are still having problems with new ones take every precaution. When I get mine back I will be dumping bucks of water on it to see if its fixed.

I was in the first batch of lights from Technostalgia and I drove through or got caught up in two bad rain storms with terrantial rains and at the end of it all I had one light that fogged up but never had water in it. I contacted Todd and told him the deal and he sent me out another light and I sent him the fogged up one. I haven't had any other issues since. I get all kind of compliments about them and one thing I've notice is that people stay off my arse with these lights. The hyperflash keeps them honest and at bay.

I through a little smoked tint on mine from Big Worm once I was sure it was all good! Also I've been in touch with Todd on several occasions on other things and they do have great customer support and products. I'm just sorry they moved from the Indiana.

I just installed the Technostalgia lights this weekend. At first I tried to take off the light trim per the instructions but gave up after 30 minutes with no success. I then decided to take the rear fascia off. I really did not want to go that route because I was afraid I would break something but felt I had no other choice. To my surprise, I took the entire rear fascia off in less than 30 minutes with no problems. I strongly suggest that route for anyone putting in these lights. I did make sure that none of the wires were crushed when installing. I know this sounds like common sense but if not careful, the wires can be crushed/shorted out if not routed properly (no, I did not crush them). I did check to see if everything was sealed properly to resolve the water problem and to my eye, they were. I then installed the lights and re-installed the rear fascia. Total time, a little over 2 hours. I must be one of the lucky ones because everything worked perfect the first time. Also tested to see if water found its way into the lights. Bone dry. We’ll see after a few weeks if the lights still operate properly and stay dry. Overall, real happy with the product.

I just replaced my tail light bezels (trim) with CF hydrodipped ones and it took me less than 5min's to get them off. Anyway, I release the tops and then the sides and they then seem to just pop freely from the bottom. That being said, I have a set of bezels for sale, satin black that can used as is or repainted to color of choice. No broken tabs and they are boxed and ready to go. Shoot me a PM if interested.

Thanks!

I have been on the fence a long time with theses lights. Everytime I get ready to order them, someone comes up with a problem with them. I would have thought the water issue would have been fixed by now. Is there any difference ordering them from Tecnostalgia or Apex? The price is the same.
