It was a miserable experience, but at the end of the day I got the exact car I wanted and I'll never see the jerks at Maxie Price Chevrolet again.

The only thing I'll say in your situation, the car is under warranty, I think it would have been fine. But you got to keep your dignity. I did not. Not at the dealership anyway. On the drive home however, my dignity came back
It's my thinking too. Sure you can abuse a new car in 300 miles but chances aren't great that he did. He might have, no doubt, but probably just drove the piss out of it (what I'd do after I bought it anyway) and brought it back.

Dignity is not a worry of mine. As long as I got what I wanted then screw them. And it's not like you can't tell them to all go **** themselves and let them know that you'll hammer them on the net and in the GM surveys later. Maybe even spit on the owners desk after you take possesion. (ok, a tad childish lol) but point is made.

BUT there is absolutely nothing wrong with walking either. If the same or close deal can be had later then I may have walked too. I was just thinking it from the possibility that when I did finally buy I'd likely pay 3k more.

If I had a good idea that I get the same car at a different dealer for 3k under MSRP later then I definitely walk.

To answer the question though. NO. You did not over react. You were given a bullshit lie and if you could never feel good about the experience and it would make you have any less feelings about your car then you did absolutely the right thing.

However, put yourself in the salesman's shoes. You're trying to sell a brand new car that has 31 miles on it, all of the sudden the owner of your dealership says "hey I'm taking this car out and letting my son drive it." You can't just tell him NO, lol. I would have rather lost the sale than lost my job.

I think a little honesty on his part would have saved you the trip, as well it might have saved the sale. But it doesn't matter, these guys will just sell it to someone else and probably for more money. Sad but true.
This is terrible customer relations, and dealership management. If someone is coming out to see a car and driving 5-6 hours one way and ARE GOING to buy a car...there is no "I need this car for the weekend" the car is virtually sold...

The question is did OP state to the dealership I WILL BUY THIS CAR I AM COMING NOW!@ before it was borrowed and lent out for the weekend? Or was he still int he decision making stage and the car was then considered just looked at and thought about?

I bet his son abused the **** out of it too haha.

If it were me I'd have had the 1000.00 run on my card to hold it.

Now, the OP did give him his CC to run if anyone showed interest in buying it to get it held. So the OP let it be known that he was going to buy it BUT any other salesmen looking at it is gonna show it not sold. Including the owner.

My guess is that the owner looked and it showed not sold so let his kid take it for whatever reason.

The salesman should have just run the card and listed it sold. IMO.

I put 1000.00 non-refundable deposit down. Dealers request of course as it was before production started but I would have anyway. I wasn't thinking of the dealer joy riding but NO WAY was I going to let my car get sold our from under me. Plus, I could track my car here.

This is nothing. While shopping for a new SRT Challenger a few months back, I had a deal in place on a new 12 SRT8 with all the options, price was $5,000.00 below msrp. I had negotiated on the car for a week to come this price and a fair trade. The morning I was supposed to head to the dealership to get the car the salesman mentions on the telephone that I would be happy the car had been maintained perfectly, I said why did it need to be maintained, he said it was used as a dealer demo and had 2800 miles on it. Needless to say I told him a few choice words and hung up.

Already said, but OP I would call Becky at Rodgers Chevrolet. She'll help you find what you're looking for and she's fair, honest and delivers great customer service.

Since it was a lot car that's probably been test driven anyway I wouldn't have worried about it. Test drives, dealer swaps etc happen every day. It's a mass produced lot car. If you want no miles the order ayour own mass produced car. I think my car had almost 1000 miles in the first week. I drive the Sh*t out of it.

you did the right thing. 3k off MSRP is a decent deal, but you weren't stealing the car at that price.
300 miles on a new car is a lot of miles, getting pretty close to demo at that point. at a minimum, they should have offered you 300-500 addional discount. you wouldn't pay full price for a TV that someone took out of the box and watched for a day, you shouldn't pay full price for a car someone drove for a weekend.

anything over 200 miles should be discounted.

I knew it was time to go when he said well...we can give you 10 cents a mile.
Whaaat? Even the IRS allows 50 cents a mile as a writeoff! This dealer is pathetic. If they would not offer a dollar a mile or better, they were totally d1Ēking with you.

Whats the deal with GM dealers lately? Did you read any reviews of the dealership before using them? Give the a crappy review or use this experience as leverage to have them give you a better deal.

Also, try contacting some of the dealers on here in "dealer discussions", there may be a deal to be had there.

I would of done the same thing, walked away. But I would of also made a HUGE scene in the middle of their showroom describing how dishonest they are so the other customers could hear me.

Letting a friggin kid take out a car that already has a deposit on it is unforgivable. You know that kid probably wore 1500 miles off the rear tires and no telling what he did to the engine while out joyriding with impunity from his father.

Good luck to you in finding that perfect car.

+1!

I would also talk to their higher ups, document the event, and take it further. Who knows maybe you will get a discount for such absurd treatment!
