Gawd, guys are spending big bucks on ZL1's and mods just to break into the 11's. I have a buddy who bought a Vega with a mild flat top 350 in it that runs high 10's. He bought the whole car for $1500 and has run it for 5 years trouble free. Won the track championship in his class. I put a $3800 383 in my Vega and run high nines.

Too heavy I say. I'm not even going to take my 45th to the strip. What for?
Yeah, Race car vs street car.

So last I remember I ran my Camaro down the track, gave up too much stripe and lost by .0221, swung by to pick up my wife and tools, drove to the tower to pick up my check, left my wife in the car for 15 mins with AC running, met & talked with HRD, then drove it home 35 miles, and finally shut the car off in the garage.
I would much rather drive this Camaro than a free Vega.

Just commenting, but I'm always a big fan of higher-stalling torque converters and increases in gearing not so much. That said, I'm undecided on which I would first (if I even did gears). How high does the stock stall go, I've read 1900? I've had a number of 'em between 3200 and 5500.

I have a question, so the C5/C6 guys would replace just the axle on one side that they would typically break, I forget which side haha. Do the 5th gen guys not just replace the one side too? Which side do the 5g guys typically break? Have any built L99 guys broke an axle? Any L99'ers broken the stock 2-piece drive shaft, and if so, at what power level?

I will guarantee our 3600 will drive like near stock when driving normally and locked up at highway cruising, but put your foot in it and the car is an entire different animal.

I'll pm you.

Alright, I'll pitch in.

I went racing tonight at PBIR and had pretty good time. The heat and humidity kept most people at home. There were maybe 50 cars max and the staging lanes were virtually empty for the first 2 1/2 hours. I got in 9 runs and only took about 2 hours to do that.

There was only 1 other 5th Gen out there and he was stock running high 13's. I raced a 2010 Shelby and beat him 2-0. He said it was stock and that he had just gotten the car. His best was 13.1. I ran a few R/T's and an SRT Jeep that ran 12.45. The Jeep was driven by a 77 year old man. Awesome. I hope I'm still racin' at that age.

My best of the night was an 11.87. I'm pretty happy with that considering my best is only .2 better, and that was run during winter and in much better air. The car kinda felt like it was stumbling in the top of 3rd gear. Maybe a belt slip? No change in sound but it definately fell off. Other than logging, is there anyway to know if it is a belt?

All in all it was a good night at the track. No body broke, oiled down the track or got injured.

Well, I havent raced any this tear due to a job change in April. Last year at Lake Cumberland the Somer Nites cruze folks were having a blast. It was a little hot and my best time was 8.32 (1/8 mi) I did manage to win best reaction time .0469. Not bad for an old gear head born in 1960 ! Best thing about these cars, you can bust a 13 sec 1/4 mi and drive it back home and get 16 to 18 mi per gallon. My last 13 sec car was a 71 Nova with every penny I got pumping gas for three years going in to to mods and was lucky to get 8 mi per gallon. For you younger folks...yeh we had guys that pumped the gas for you, washed ur windows, checked your oil and charged .38 cents a gallon.....and a drink glass for mom!!! yeh I had to change the tv channel for my dad and turn the dial SLOW!!!

I ran on Friday, testing out a Vararam intake on my car.

I lost in the first round w/ a red light, but ran a 13.34 on my 13.33 dial... Damn reds, my first one of the year in the elimination rounds.

Highlight of the night was I beat a CTS-V in test & tune after I was eliminated. We were both asleep on the light, but my .3 r/t got his .6 r/t... He says the weather was really messing with him and he wasn't very happy. The DA was 3319, so I was way down, but I still crossed the line first by a car length or two w/ a 13.28 to his 13.21. Just goes to show that even the best can have a bad run, and you still have a chance. He had a real bad run, as we was running low to mid 12s most of the night

I crew for my buddy Andy, and we ran a local 1/8th mile race. WIN! 2 months in a row. MDRA at GLD, we run the 315 DR class, and they have a very popular 275 (28x10.5) class too. That class was also running 4.85-5.20's, nobody was able to run in the 4.7's otherwise Andy would have run maybe even into the 4.6's and run 160mph.

Best pass was 4.87@155, 1.21, 3700DA!

Old pic of the car, I'm the dork in glasses:

I ran my car last Saturday but the results and the info is for a mag article so we will wait until the article comes out to talk about the improvements.

I have a question, I used to see C5 and early C6 guys swap only one axle, the side that was prone to breaking. Now I don't think my car would ever break an axle cutting only high 1.6's and 1.7's (at some point) but do the 5th gen guys always go for both axles? Do any of the axle companies just sell one side? Which side is prone to breaking on these cars?

I finally weighed my car though, was 3805 w/o me, so 4105 raceweight.

Is that your stock weight? Just curious because I weighed mine a few weeks ago and got 3880 lbs. I thought it'd be a little lighter with my mods, but that also included 1/4 tank gas.

Not "stock" weight as some bolt-ons have changed.. I have cloth seats and no sunroof if that makes a difference. I would think that leather power seats would be noticeably heavier. I had 1/4 tank of gas. Scale was accurate as we know the weight on the outlaw radial car and it was within 10 lbs.

after mods mine weighed in at 3850 with 3/4 tank of fuel. Saved alot of weight on the exhaust system.
