V8 engine oil dipstick hard to read ?

Checking the oil level at the gas station is sometimes inconvenient here, because of no level ground. Therefore I compared the cold reading (after the car sat overnight in the garage) to the hot reading (10 minutes after shutting down the engine, on level ground of course) and found no remarkable difference. Therefore I prefer the cold reading, which is much easier with this kind of dipstick.
