Oh and btw, I'm able to afford a camaro and have no computer access. BUT I use my iPhone as a mobile desktop and download songs on iTunes with it. I rarely use my CD player but I still think its foolish to take it out completely.
Why dont you have access to a computer? No internet?

My computer crapped out. I have not had the urge to replace it yet only to see the new one crap out again in a few years. No point to me. Seems like a waste of $700.

Both Camaro sound systems sound best with CD's.

At any rate, of course sales are falling. But it doesn't change the fact that you can still get a CD player with MP3 capability in a Mustang...and NOT in a Camaro.
Actually you CAN still get a CD player, in the base model '13 Camaro. The LS still has them. Only LT and up come with the touch screen.

The boston acoustic equipment that comes in the camaros is GARBAGE. Anyone who knows anything about premium audio knows they are trash. They are paper cone speakers. If you think that factory premium sounds good....well you just dont know what youre listening to. $300, throw some infinity componants in the doors, and it sounds like a different system all together.

Statistically speaking, computers in fact crap out every few years, so it's better to avoid them like the plague.

Buy a large capacity USB like I have and just copy your CDs into individual folders (like Artist or Album name) and use a USB. I did it. Its way easy, just plug in the usb in the car and go. You can search and find the song/artist you want using the radio or just have the radio randomly pick a song.

I see your argument for CD players, although it is a little weak no matter how you spin it. But the USB thing is just so simple and easy.

As for the original post...most of my music is downloaded and was originally burned to CD. Since then I have moved it to USB and have only used the USB in the Camaro. I'm not sure if the quality of my downloaded songs is a bit lower (probably the case) or what, but at one point I did listen to a friend's CD in the car and it sounded amazing. Better overall rich quality sound than my stuff.
I'm not going to pay extra for a "high-end" head unit from the factory just to tear it out and slap an aftermarket one in its place.

I'm through ranting, but the next few months of sales numbers will be interesting to watch as every single person I've told about this change have said "Don't trade yours then...because I WOULD NOT WANT A CAR WITHOUT A CD PLAYER."

I predict this will be as bad if not worse than Sony's Blu-Ray debacle. Eventually it did win out over HD-DVD, but not before nearly bankrupting the entire company and devastating their home gaming division so bad that they are still trying to recover.

GM doesn't have those kinds of funds...and this will be a much bigger loss with a much bigger impact. I think alot of you tech types will be surprised just how big of a deal this becomes.

I'm a tech guy myself, and I don't do the MP3 crap. Give me a CD any day.

Anyway, not much to say at this point. Time will tell.

I had the same CD in my 2010 for three years. I never played it as I used my USB thumb drive.

I love my '13 Camaro head unit. When I sold my '10 I tossed that CD in the trash. (It was a MP3 CD anyway.)

BTW I use this usb stick.

http://www.sandisk.com/products/usb/drives/cruzer-fit/

It is nearly flush and gives more room in the center console. I bought mine on sale at Best Buy. (4gb for $6)

Now THAT'S interesting. Not sure what the marketing division was thinking on that front since, apparently, "if you can afford a Camaro, you can afford a computer".

Lol you really are just a troll.... And yes if you can afford a $20,000+ car why wouldn't you be able to afford a $150+ computer and yes they sell computers that cheap they may suck but they do exist.

And considering that technology is taking over hard copy stuff such as paper is going to be obsolete soon probably twenty years because technology comes and eventually completley replaces the less superior thing before it

ShowSStopper, you can (I think) still buy portable CD players that would plug into the aux input jack in the console. That way, you could have your CD's AND have a far cooler car than if you bought anything else.

I change out the CD that're in my decks (several vehicles) about once a year, as they are encoded in MP3 and hold around 140 songs of mixed bit rate encoding. Play them on random and it takes a while to get tired of them or hear a repeat.

Back when I was still downloading music from the internet and the concept was new to me, I was grabbing everything in sight at 128 kb/s. I'm glad I got the music when I did, but if I had it to do all over again, I'd shoot for substantially higher sampling. 192 minimum; 320 sounds pretty darn good, it just wasn't ever available on the sites I was on.

"I'm a huge tech guy and I'm on the cutting edge of every gadget or gizmo in the year 2012, with that being said, give me a quality "45", BetaMax, Macintosh Computer or Laserdisc any day.". FYI: My work car is a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue. It has both a tape deck and a CD player. It has both because they were tansitioning during that period. As I said several posts ago, CD's have been around since the mid-80's. There are better options than having to haul around a dump truck full of plastic discs and risk them getting scratched (MP3's hold 1,000's of songs and it fits in your pocket). It is now 2012 and I doubt anybody is going apeshit over the fact that absolutely NO cars come with a tape deck anymore. Time moves on. If it did not, we'd still be listening to radio shows on the Ole Victrola and be riding around in a buckboard wagon being pulled by two mules instead of driving around in these cars. If you still want that tech, go buy a Delorean and install a Flux Capacitor.

Heck, for that matter, I'd rather be listening to a SACD or a DVD-Audio disc, but that's not happening, either.
