Nice to know there are multiple electrical issues not just one.

I'm sure he was contacted, regardless of what he says. Most all customer calls are recorded.

I'm sure there is more to this story. Also, I'm pretty sure his car was built well past the recall for the battery cable since it has the back up sensors. And, the small wire he's talking about in the video is to the alternator, not the starter. Also looks like the hole in the hood is above the air cleaner box and from the looks of it when he starts moving stuff around he had a aftermarket air cleaner. Not saying this didn't start from and electrical fire but I don't think all the facts are known to believe the story just yet.

It was very early cars. My 2010 was delivered in Aug 2009 and was not affected by this recall. (This recall was for RPO cars.) That car HAD to be a later car. Easiest way to know is Summit White was not a launch color and did not come out till later.

Also ZL1 with a $600 car payment.... better have over 20K to put down.

Good point. If he's broke that's not going to be easy.

I fail to see how this is on GM.

He had the car for 30 months according to the youtube video. If that's the case that's brings the car purchase down to around March/April/May (+/- an month range to account for estimation based on upload date) of 2010. The recall notice was made.

05/06/2009 roughly a year prior.

this car would have already been fixed at the dealership had it fallen into the recall category before he had the opportunity to purchase it. Hell even if we add an additional 6 months to that it would still bring the car purchase down to Oct 2009 which is still after the recall date. I understand this calculation does not factor in the build date but still gives a rough idea on purchase date. If the car was bought new on the lot it is more likely than not exempt from the recall.

I don't even own a Camaro yet but have an app for 2010's on my iPhone just because I want a SGM , I have no choice but to purchase used. I may have to get the app for 2011's if that's what I end up purchasing. It's useful because it lists recalls.

It's actually where I pulled the recall notice date from. It wouldn't effect SGM's in my case cause they were only LT's in 2010.

I too am self employed and have had trouble financing due to this. (Canadian). I actually am currently working multiple jobs. (Self employed and Retail Warehouse) as the second job will better my chances at a loan in the future should I find the car I want. It's not GM's fault he lost his full-time job or made the choice to change career paths sure he may have been making the payments at the time but new loans will be based on the current employment . He also shouldn't be asking for 2012/2013 SS or ZL1 if anything he should be asking for financing on a used 2010 SS.

In the course of the 30 months this car was never brought in for servicing? As I am sure a check on the VIN during servicing would have also flagged a Recall Notice if it's in the allotted VINS.

I still feel bad for the owner but bad luck happens. I just don't think it would be fair to others such as myself who can make the payments but can't get financed.

Buy a Chevy Volt instead...

That way, when it catches fire, he won't be caught by surprise; he'll be expecting it.
