The Camaro is rated very well for the insurance because it is a very safe car, even if does have 400+ HP in the SS.

As a person that learned to drive in North Jersey but now in Delaware via most of the country. This sign should be posted on all 2 lane or more roads. I know it is on the GSP and other places in Jersey.
"KEEP RIGHT UNLESS PASSING." and it should be enforced!!!!.
If all you PA and MD drivers going to the beach this summer would try this, many people in DE would appreciate it. Oh yeah, PUT DOWN THE FREAKIN CELL PHONE!!!!!
The car is my daughters. last month a guy text messaging did not turm slightly to the right when the road did. My daughter was coming the other way. Left the hospital 4 hours later with a band-aid on her finger, airbag scrapes on her face and a bruise on her shoulder from the seat belt. Not wearing your seat belt? Good luck out there.

To actually be -on- topic again..

If the picture from the OP is from a 70MPH rear-end crash..the Camaro safety design must be top notch! The cabin area looks to have only minor damage. I'm sure anyone riding in the car might have a sore neck and back, but I doubt anything other than that!

<Off-topic> What's with the manual vs. auto snobbery? There's no reason for that.

He wasnt talking down about auto cars. He was simply making a metaphor about how an auto car is how we are making our lives now. We put it on autopilot and just forget about it. You cant do that with cars, at least not yet.

Your life is in potential jeopardy every time we get behind the wheel. Fiddling with the radio, cell phones, cigarettes, drive thru coffee, kids misbehavin in the back seat. Everyone needs to do a better job of paying attention behind the wheel. Can I still eat my Big Mac while driving?

If that is truly a 70 mph hit, then I am thankful that she is OK.

On a secondary note, this along with other wrecked Camaro posts - it is one SAFE car. GM wanted a 5 star rating in all directions and these pictures are testament that they have that and then some.

I was thinking that if this damage to the Camaro was from a 70 mph hit, the engineers did a great job designing the car for safety. I would like to see the Japanese or Korean competition's cars in a simular crash.

Over the last few days, I've come across some pretty incredible postings about the crashes that some of the Camaro5 forum members or their family members have been in while driving (or stopped in) their Camaro's. The worst recently seems to be by Jason41 today (Fri 6/05) @ 12:40 AM whose wife was rear ended at 70 MPH ! ! ! See picture below. His wife is ok.

And so it has me glad that the 2010 Camaro is absolutey outstanding in the safety category - something I had in the back of my mind, but am now feeling very secure about.

And now my rant....
Most drivers today don't really care about the "art of driving" a car. To most of them a car is another appliance with no more attachment or meaning than a refrigerator or washing machine. Thats why they open their doors into your car and give YOU the look when you call them on it.
Four way stop signs are there for the other driver to stop, never for them.
Backing up on an exit ramp because they took the wrong exit, its now YOUR problem because you're in their way - they start honking and cursing at you!
And in suburbia, hey you don't need to pull to the curb when you let off a passenger or pick them up! Just stop in the middle of the road and let everyone go around you.
Oh and at night, its your tough luck that you're now blinded because someone wants to park on the wrong side of the road with their "brights" on blinding you as you try to go past.
Add to the mess the texting, cell phoning, and the ongoing problems of drunk and substance abuse idiots and we who care about driving a decent car - are doomed.
It seems that today, to them its "my right" to do what "I" want, where "I" want, however "I" want to. I guess that's what a "license to drive" means to them!!!!!!
I'm off on a rant but I cannot for the life of me figure out how the mentality of today's drivers got sooooooo bad.
Rant over.
Drive defensively and be careful out there for the sake of you, your family and your Camaro.

We build them strong here in Oshawa...

+1!

You know it's one thing that a car can achieve a 5 star rating, its another that it can well exceed it.
Looks like the GM engineers were aiming at a 10 star rating !

:fighting0040::bangdesk::thu mbdown: Whatever. I drive 25k miles a year and don't wear a seatbelt unless one of 2 things is occuring. Its my choice period.

1. I am driving my truck and in a Florida rainstorm

2. I am driving my car - agressive would be an understatement.

There is no reason whatsoever anyone should get hit in the a$$ by somebody driving 70 mph. Non at all.

On another note its amazing how over engineered the new Camaro is regarding this. And they said Chevy trucks were "like a rock"

In 1996 I was from behind hit by a woman doing 50 MPH while I sat at a red light. She claimed she didn't see my bright red 1996 Camaro (which had 473 miles on the odometer). The crush zones designed into the car saved my life. I would think the 2010 Camaro is designed to be more safe than my 96.
