Some intakes don't need tunes, some look nice, some keep the air cooler, some have easy installations. Not all intakes are equal, Jannetty proved that at his expense.

There isn't necessarily anything "wrong" with a cheap no-name intake... For all we know, they work better than the big boy's expensive units... Highly unlikely, but certainly possible. The problem?? I'm fairly certain no one has actually done any kind of dyno comparison on a cheap ebay intake, at least that I have seen... Perhaps JRE has? I've seen the "cheap CAIs" on ebay for as little as $99 with free shipping. Why haven't I bought one? I don't see them as competition, so why waste my time to research and test something so "unknown"; to build something new and hopefully better that the ones that count, well... That's worth pursuing.
If JRE ever does another dyno shootout, I would gladly buy one of the ebay intakes and have it shipped there on my on dime, just to see what it would do... That being said, you get what you pay for... There's reasons the high dollar intakes cost big bucks, the manufacturers take extra steps to make them better than your average bare bones, probably made in china ebay intake. |
