Another dead driver's seat heater and thank everyone for the thread. I opened the seat from the rear (without removing) today. The pink wire was broken, but it appears it is broken at the element rather than mid-wire.
For those who have reconnected broken wires, doesn't this look like I'm going to need to order an element? I can't find (feeling) the other end of the wire, only what feels like the element. Or, do I just need to pull it all apart to find the other end?

I have been intending to post a follow-up to my question in hopes of helping someone in the same situation. I ordered a new seat-back element and hog ring pliers, yanked the seat out and started to work.
What I found was the break was unrepairable: ![]() or rather, any attempted repair would have been futile. The break was at the element itself. Any attempt to resolder the connection would likely have melted the element casing resulting in further issues and a solder joint in such a flexible position as a seat back wouldn't have lasted long. At any rate, I'd encourage anyone to try this repair as it wasn't difficult at all. The element was pretty spendy ($130 IIRC), but a hog ring plyer set on Amazon was under $20. The most difficult part (and it wasn't) was getting the seat out of the car. |
