Some biologists recently did an interesting experiment. They would put two monkeys side-by-side in two cages. They would feed them a normal diet of monkey food, and both the monkeys were happy.

Then, one day, they would start feeding one of the monkeys a special treat -- like chocolate, or something sweet. The other monkey, who didn't get the treat, would see this. He'd get enraged, and fling his regular old monkey food out of the cage at the researchers.

Humans seem to be driven by the same desire: If somebody else has something better than you, you can't be happy with what you have. You're perfectly happy with what you have if everybody else has the same thing, but if someone else has something better than you, you can no longer be happy.

I guess we're just monkeys sometimes...
No I don't feel that way. But if I would have gotten a run of the mill GT, then yes, I would have.

But I do agree with you that it's silly. But that's just the way it is.

Well I'm not sure how that makes sense either. We're not talking about something objective or material, like which car weighs more. The whole point of mentioning the monkey experiment is to point out that desire and satisfaction are all in your mind; you can choose to have one or the other depending on your outlook.

I'm perfectly happy getting the LT, and don't have any desire for the V8. Honestly, I have no idea what I'd use all that power for. I don't race, I just want a daily driver. A V8 would just be a waste of gas and money.

I readily admit that I settled for a 2LT with a v6. If money was no object for me, then sure, I'd get a 2SS with every option on it, then find someone who could tweak it for another 150+ HP just to be sure. For those with the funds to do it, I'm excited for you and would love to hear about it when you do it.
I live in reality, but it's a reality where I can get a 2LT and still afford the note on my wife's new suv and my mortgage without worrying about finances. I put 15k miles a year on a car. If gas goes to $4 and I'm getting mid-20's, it's not going to kill me. The insurance is cheaper. I won't be tempted to run a the ragged edge every chance I get - which would be tempting with 426 hp on tap. Honestly, it was an easy sell to go with a LT when my other options were family sedans. So, will it be a Ford Fusion, Nissan Altima or a measly V6 Camaro that'll run the 1/4 in low 14's and get the same mileage as the sedans? Hmm. I'll settle for stunning looks and performance that'll smoke 85% of what's on the road any day.

I mean where else can u get this much car with 305 hp and 29 mpg thats amazing imo. My drag racing days are long over and no way in hell im racing some ricer clown just to see who's the bigger man on the streets and take out some soccer mom in her mini van with her 3 kids. Load up a 2LT RS thats one hell of car for a daily driver.Correct me if im wrong but wasnt a lot of the muscle cars of the 60's early 70's under or close to 300 hp? My 99 grand am v6 is around 180ish hp and has tons of pick up to get around town and to pass on the highway. Anyone else getting these kind of statements from your v6 camaro as i sure am?
I test drove the V6 and it had good power! buy whatever makes youn happy and dont worrie what they say! there just ragging you cause there probably jeolouse. I did end up purchasing a V8 havent got chance to drive it yet. its been in shop since i bought it. there flying a rep in from gm having airbag sensor bad or something? But driving V6 satisfied me enough to buy one. I cant wait to get a chance to drive the V8 but if you do buy a V6 I think you will be happy!

Just for funny, the '69 Boss 302 and Z28 with 302 were rated at about 290HP. Yes, it was a differrent time and the ratings were different too.

I guess my point is, that todays V6 is like the small block motors of yesterday.

It's not the way it is. It's the way some dumb people are. Big difference.

uh oh... I am agreeing with the mustang guy.

It is true that the V6 is "settling" when the V8 is offered. But with that said, you could just listen to the people telling you that and when they stop talking, tell them "If mine is a chicks car then what does that make yours when I leave you?"

The LT will satisfy my needs. If I get promoted from not til the day I purchase the Camaro, then I'll consider a 2SS. As of right now I'd RATHER have a 2LT over a 1SS.

its fun to make a V6 camaro kick other V8's as*es. Its only a matter of time till the sixers are passing V8 times, with a few modifications.

Thats true to an extent. There is STILL no replacement for displacement. Yeah, you can mod a V6 to beat some STOCK and LIGHTLY modded V8's but there will always be modded V8's to beat the modded V6's.

I settled!!!!! I would have much rather bought a 2 ss, but as of now i cannot afford it. I do think i will upgrade in the future. So i look at it this way.....
1. I have 2010 camaro
2. It is one of 7 (well when i bought it was)in the state.
3. I have 1 2010 camaro
4. you dont have a 2010 camaro
5. my 2010 camaro will always be cooler than most everythign on the road regardless of motor.
6. chicks dig it
7. its red
8. its fast
9. its mine
10. when i pay off 2 bills this will be the wifes and the 2 ss will be mine.

and thats all i have to say about that!!!

just tell them that your car will probably out perform all of theirs. I would also cite that while they consider a V6 camaro a "chick" car they dont consider a V6 370z a chick car? The 1960's and 70's are over not every american sports car has to have a V8. For godsakes there is a massive following for 4 banger Civics! I wanted a V8 but could not afford one so i bought the V6 and im just as proud to say I own that car. Dont let them get you down or purchase beyond your means your going to get a sexy, powerful, and brand new car they should be jealous.
