I've been worried about this for a while now. I pick up my car tomorrow and was hoping my PlaysForSure device (iRiver clix) that I play Napster tunes from will work, however others who have tried (different devices) say it doesn;t work...

HOWEVER, I was browsing through the iRiver firmware update, and found that you can format your iRiver for a different mode called MTP (as opposed to UMS or soemthing else) and supposedly this mode is compatible with "PlaysFromDevice" cars (which the Camaro supposedly is) as opposed to the normal mode which is not. Obviously I will test it out tomorrow, but those who are having problems may want to consider looking at firmware updates for their device, or changing the device's mode.

Maybe this will help some people. It explains what devices are compatible. It doesn't say anything about confidential nor does it contain a copyright notice so it's fair game.

I think the flash drive is the way to go. It is is really tiny and is also cheaper than an ipod.

Also, I have never found myself needing 2500 songs.... I get bored sometimes and need a new selection other than what I pick, so I listen to the radio.

I have a Sandisc sansa e250 hope that works I can add up 16 gbs to it's 2 with a micro sd card, they have listed the e280 as being compatible so heres hoping. My backup plan will be flash drives, I just don't want to sit there for minutes reindexing all songs every time the car shuts off.

my iriver clix (now that i eliminated all the DRM music and have just MP3s) is great, although I only have about 20 songs on it right now. But before I had like 200 and it indexed in like 2 seconds. The only thing I don't like is if i leave it plugged in if I tune to another source, the next time I start the car it goes back to the iriver instead of staying on XM or whatever. Otherwise only other problem is if i plug it in just after i sync it with my PC it says no supported files, so then I unplug it and plug it back in and its ready to go.

If you have an IPOD or ZUNE and you like how it is operated... then I recommend that.

If not... then I suggest a simple USB flash drive. You can copy mp3's to them faster than you could burn a CD. You could get a 16GB SONY or VERBATIM and load it up with stuff that you know you'll want to listen all the time, and you can just keep it in your car. Or you can get a 2GB drive and just copy and paste mp3's before you head out the door, whatever you feel like listening to.

But I'm going to give my Western Digital Passport Elite 500GB drive a try. It's about the size of a wallet, it's thin, and you can get one for under $150. It's powered through the USB cable.

I'll also be using USB flash drives.

I have 23,934 songs on my portable hard drive. I don't listen to EVERYTHING, ALL-THE-TIME... but I know it's there when I get an itch.

Someone tried a portable drive and it didn't work at all.

In addition to that, the deck can only handle up to 2500 songs when on a USB drive (or anything other than iPods). No point in getting something like a drive for the Camaro when a 16gb flash drive is already overkill :(

Well then that's a sign that it's time to do some weeding in the music garden.

Right now, I use that drive to bring all my music and some movies/pictures to work. I figured I'd give it a shot.

And I saw a message about not being able to imagine actually liking to listen to thousands of different songs.

There are a lot of songs that I would probably never listen to on their own, but I'm happy to listen to them when I put on an album.
