Even an experienced driver can be caught out. I would rather leave the electrickery on, than face this sort of manly outcome.

Also, that picture is from when the ZL1 was being tracked at VIR - IE a professional driver on a closed course.

Call me a wuss for leaving the nannies on or whatever - I'd rather them be there for the one time I actually need them, then them not be there at all.
dont get me wrong, im not calling anyone a wuss or inexperienced because you leave everything on, its your decision. just like its my decision to turn them off, its not an ego thing and i dont brag but, yes i have years of evasive driving experience,it doesnt make me dumb because i turn everything off. your comfortable with the nannies on,im comfortable with them off. nothing more...nothing less

Jimmy Clark, a racing God, died behind the wheel. He was the best F1 racer of his day, with the possible exception of Dan Gurney. Around 40% of F1 drivers died while in contests of speed during that era.

The professional driver on that closed course crashing says little, if nothing, about nanny controls preventing accidents. That driver was in some type of testing or competition, which is a risk. The car was at high speed, which is a risk. He was on a racetrack, which is a risk. Firstly, we don't know the reason for the crash or if any "nannies" were in use. Secondly, the circumstances he encountered every second while on that racetrack far outstrips the norm when driving on public roads

The suggestion is that removing the nannies=going too fast=a crash, and it is proven by that wrecked ZL1

Respectfully, the math doesn't add up . That's becasue the assumption is that removing the nannies means I'm going to go around being a tough guy in my car, pretending I'm a race driver. I'm not saying that's your standpoint, I'm saying that it's "the" standpoint.

I agree completely. But I view it the same as I view motorcycle drivers who don't wear a helmet when they ride.

It's the "better safe than sorry" expression.

I turn mine off, often. I learned to drive on high torque RWD cars that were designed in the '60s. I know how to drive. When the rear end slips a bit, I'm already correcting my steering inputs and throttle before the nannies take over. Then they cut in, mid-correction. The result is that the car jerks around.

I don't like it. Not one bit. So off they go. Never had any problems even in cars that make much more torque, at much lower rpms than an LS3
Well ... I also know how to drive. There is just no need to turn them off during "normal driving". Period. I've never had them kick on during "normal driving." When I want to feel the rear end slip, I turn them off.

Stigs right, its an ego thing. It's the mentality that "I know what to do when I lose control better than some computer, I know how to drive, i've been driving high torque cars for years."

Or as another member said ... and I believe he said it best

I've turned mine off twice...once to test the theory over the course of a week about brake dust build-up, (no difference, still a ton), and the day I was stuck in the snow, so the wheels would spin faster than 5mph and I could creep back in the driveway!

All you tough guys, (not calling out everyone in this thread), call me what you want, but I never turn them off. Then again, I bought this car to enjoy, not show off in. Although I do enjoy some spirited driving here and there, when my family's not with me.

If I was a track or strip guy, I'd probably turn them off more, but I'm not.
