At the end of the day the ZL1 imo is the best looking muscle car these 40 year olds eyes have ever seen. The GT500 is still a sweet ride though i would be proud to have that in my driveway.

Quite frankly the Camaro needs the rear backup camera and sensors because of its blind spots (adjusting the mirrors only does so much) It's a 10 year old chassis the S197 they couldn't add IRS if they wanted to add it to the current model. As per PTM as an example, I won't argue it's more advanced than the 8 or so modes that are on the GT500, I'd prefer not to have a traction control system that controls the vehicles throttle in turns.

The Camaro may have the chassis tech, but apart from the HUD, it's not very technologically impressive inside. I love the HUD in my Camaro but the interior technology definitely goes to the Mustang, exterior Camaro.

Also we don't know what the new gen cars will look like, it's easy to say we won't like the new Mustang or even Camaro for that matter, plus the 5.8 is being cutout after this model...
the cars are really apples and oranges in some ways. That is why this debate kills me. they are both so nice and have some many good things about them. I would never question a person for picking one over the other one as you have to chose and priorities vary.

Any one who says either one of them suck I imedially know biased or never driven the cars. I have mustang friends, mopar friends, corvette friends. all are amazed by the ZL1 when there in it. on the flip side any car capable of low 11's will make most people smile when you stand on it.

I two chose the ZL1 based on cost and mag ride. honeslty though If a ford dealer would have went below MSRP and I could have got a TP/PP gt500 for under 60k I might have bought it.

this was one of the first times I really struggled to pick a car. In 2008 shopping GT500 vs corvette I took me one drive decide on corvette and never look back and never regreted it.

Until I put some mods on the Zl1 there were times I wish it had power more like my Z06 did which the GT500 does.

I should have her home in a few weeks. I have to wait for a nice day when the roads are dry, then I will take her home and park her until the spring(this is a second car for me)

It was a hard decision and someone mentioned that they are apples to oranges and I think they really are. The Mustang is a street demon and the Camaro is more refined. Technology wise, the Mustangs powertrain is superior, but its on a 10 year old chassis which does not compare to the Camaro. I do think the Camaro looks nicer. I feel both cars are great and depending on what type of person you are, either car will impress. For me I felt that if I wanted more power I could just mod the Camaro, where I can't change the look of the Mustang.

Thanks for all the congrats from everyone. As soon as I get her home I will post some pics. She is Black, has the Carbon Fiber Hood, sunroof, and the bright aluminum wheels.

Chevy has always been more popular in racing almost for ever. Also you never see a ford engine in a Chevy but you see Chevy in a ford. The mustang is faster stock, but you can make the ZL1 faster than the 500. Overall the Camaro is faster. Drag racing the 500 is faster. We drive cars overall not drag racing as much when on the road.
I like the GT500, I just always been a Chevy guy.

That sounds like some Forza Horizon stuff to me. Who races around town? On the street(a.k.a. straight line) the GT500 has the ZL1s #.

And OP you need pictures!

Are there any tune/CAI packages out there that would bring the ZL1's HP up to something closer to the GT500?

I'm very familiar with Mustang aftermarket parts availability, but I'm just now starting to get educated on the Camaro . . .
Oh yes. Give Jannetty Racing in CT a call. They'll fix you right up.

You shouldn't be racing straight line on the street either.... Moot point.

Yes, but legally we can drive tight corners fast under the speed limit. Not referring to racing on the street, driving on the street. Never said around town either.

At speeds you can do legally on the street one would be hard pressed to even notice a difference when driving a GT500 or ZL1. Even an RX8 or Miata would probably take a 35mph corner just as easy as either of the two pony cars.
