New era intake mounts to the radiator I take it then. Looks like my money will go to who evers intake is made the best. If the quality issues the vette guys are talking about are resolved then I'm in for vavaram. Otherwise may have to go with New Era. Can't wait for these products to get out there and get some hands on reviews.

Ive got a vararam on my ls3 vette. The quality issues are NOT performance related, they are purely cosmetic. The unit just feels, fits, and looks a little cheap, But its definitely a performer. Hoping the camaro units will be a step up.

As for the competition shaping up in this area? FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT

Latest test updates

08/17/09
Test Notes from the road for the 6sp VR Camaro Ram air system development
Camaro 6 speed test ( VRX-004)
WE have now logged the car for almost a week and run about 200 miles with no check engine lights without doing any custom tuning etc..
I have completed all coldstart simulations from 65 deg to our current 90-100+ temps.
Fuel trims are in line with OEM and the car runs strong
Freeway cruise in 5th and 6th - here fuel trims are also within OEM and look good, fuel MPG is better.

accceleration testing;
( small beta test mule VRX- #004 vs factory stock)
DA is 2375ft
1 person 200lbs + 1/2 tank of shell 93 oct
12pm test start
2,500RPM launch on fast release
All Runs are Hot laps, no cooldown etc.. and never any tuning.

Stock runs are
0-60 4.71- 4.78
1/4mile 13.18-13.20@ 107.1 107.5mph
60ft times are 2.10-2.13sec
(customer ran the car at the track with some cooldown and ran a 13.18@108.5mph best on a 2.15-18 ,60ft)

With VR test mule #004 installed
Car now runs consistent 0-60mph times of 4.30- 4.37 ( 6 back to back runs,no cooldown, no tuning)
launch is 2,500 RPM, wheels spin is 5ft, as measured
60ft times are 2.12-2.15 sec (lousy but consistant)
1/4mile times 12.80-12.87 @ 110.5-110.7mph ( 3 runs back to back, No cooldown,)
with correction factor
12.5-12.6@ 112-113mph!

Rain delay.....

later in day after rain delay 7.30pm
DA is 1947ft
Same launch tecnique, however, the rain has blown the launch pad the car either Bogs or I have to be more aggressive with clutch release and it just blows the tires off of it!

0-60mph 4.47-4.50
60ft times are 2.23-2.31 ( No consistantcy, NO grip)

All further acceleration testing for the day "ABORTED"

I will continue data loging through the night untill 5am

I will switch to the larger "TUNE ONLY" unit VRX-#005 at 7am 08/18/09

Produces a real-world 35hp+
• A direct bolt on
• No chopping or cutting on the car
• Unreal throttle response
• Flows 1400-2000CFM+! (Depending on the filter used)
• Reduces 0-60mph by a full ― second! (As tested 5.2 stock vs 4.7 & 4.65 best with
VR system NO TUNING!) With a tune, we saw 4.4 sec but no grip to go faster.
• Reduces ž mile ET by 3 tenths and adds +3mph Minimum Guaranteed, or we will
take the unit back and pay shipping both ways!
• (NO TUNING) w/ tuning you will go even quicker.
I have a few questions.

If you pick up .5 tenths of a second in 0-60 how come you only pick up .3 tenths in the quarter mile.

Anything gained in the 0-60 should at least carry if not multiply by 1320 FT not go slower, so where are the other 2 or so tenths.

Looking at all the data I see 4 CFM, over a stock inlet elbow, how does this translate in to 35 Hp and are we talking Engine or Rear Wheel.

I really don't beleive the stock air box is that bad unless the filter is clogged to begin with.

looks like the correction factor is 1.022

so stock with correction would be 12.9 from the original 13.19

I don't see it.

That is a .41 of a deference in the 0-60 times.

As for you on the deference on the Stock runs (customer ran the car at the track with some cooldown and ran a 13.18@108.5mph best on a 2.15-18 ,60ft) And on the vararam unit no cooldown.

Vararam Update

WE are currently shipping 6 Beta Prototype VR Camaro systems accross the the country for final airfuel ratio evaluation of both the "NO TUNE" required and the "TUNE ONLY" systems.
This will allow us to verify our in house test simulations of different Density altitude conditions for cold start and long term fuel trims etc..

We are moving to Production tooling at this time and adding the final tweaks to the systems for fit finsh as well as setting up our production CNC systems.
.
.
There will be two types of VR systems going into production a "NO TUNE" and a "TUNE ONLY"system
( our public testing has been with the "NO TUNE" systems , the weaker of the two)
WE will be providing pictures soon of the production models and complete spec sheets on both.
(You can always custom tune a "NO TUNE" system for more power)

( The final Beta test mules)
There will be many features unveiled in the production units that are also part of the Patent Pending design that will not be seen on these Beta test units

The Beta testers will be painted flat black, serial numbered and welded shut to keep prying eyes out
The pupose of these units is to gather final data from other vehicles from around the country.
.
2 "TUNE ONLY" systems will be built for tuners we have selected for evaluation.
(TBA at a later time)

(4) "NO TUNE" Prototype systems will be built for the following

1. 2-SS-RS .(Camaro 5 member)
2. SS1_2010 (Camaro 5 member and now Local 6sp test car)
3. Private Non forum member ( Local long term ,Auto test car )
4. TBA

We appreciate the Patience Forum members have shown. We will simply never push a product out that has not completed its test cycle.

I am testing the intake for them and I am inlove with it. It makes a huge difference anyone here who has a M6 knows that at 60 mph in 6th gear you have no power now it just picks up and goes as if you were in 5th gear on the stock intake which is a big difference. You guys will be impressed on fit and finish don't worry about that.
